The Royal Mosquito Family

Name: Mosquito Queen
Purpose: Boss Enemy
Nature: Aggressive and malevolent, the Mosquito Queen is hate incarnate into insectoid form. Why it holds such hatred towards all things is unknown; maybe there is some deeper meaning to it, or maybe it holds a grudge simply to survive.
Description/History: The Mosquito Queen looks like a crimson, roughly guinea pig puppy human-sized mosquito, with thick spiny chitin covering most of its body. Its physical appearance varies from evolution to evolution:

  • 1st: like that of an average mosquito, except larger, spinier, redder and possessing two sets of wings
  • 2nd: As before, but larger, also possessing heavier chitin plating and a considerably more dangerous nozzle resembling a rapier blade in size
  • 3rd (current): As before, but now human-sized; has six eyes, additional mandibles below the nozzle and a pair of mutated forelegs, which resemble that of a praying mantis.

The Mosquito Queen's origins are as of yet unknown. It was first discovered in site 19's Medical where it sting several people before withdrawing to lay eggs and mutate to a second stage. Soon the eggs hatched: this became known as the Hatchening.
Other: After being defeated, the Mosquito Queen will use the last of its power reserves to heal its wounds and advance to a new stage of mutation.

  • Loyal Servants: For as long as the Mosquito Queen has a swarm surrounding it, it gains a +3 bonus to its Physical Defense.
  • Fly Like a Bug: The Mosquito Queen's Agility stat is doubled.
  • Sting Like a Rapier: The Mosquito Queen has a +2 bonus to its Melee stat.
  • Terrifying Stature: As a last ditch effort, the Mosquito Queen can make an Intimidate attack to lower a foe's mental health, gaining a +3 bonus to the roll. This skill can only be used if the Mosquito Queen is below or at half health.

Engagement Style: The Mosquito Queen is highly aggressive in combat, attempting to impale the closest target to it. If it is surrounded by its swarm however, it takes on a more passive approach, letting the swarm overwhelm and weaken the foe first before closing in on its prey. The Queen is terrifyingly intelligent, with its intelligence rising as the number of its swarm does; it is capable of even some advanced strategies and ambushes.

Name: The Larva King
Purpose: Boss Enemy
Nature: The Larvae King is merely a beast, and as such thinks and concerns with only one thing: to feed.
Description/History: A gigantic, larva-like behemoth death worm, partly covered in similar chitinous plating as the Mosquito Queen. The Queen had sent a carrier drone out from its cell in Containment, carrying the egg in which the Larva King resided. After it successfully reached the site forest, the carrier died, letting the Larva King hatch and burrow into the ground. It soon began to feed and grow at an alarming rate: soon enough, unusual seismic activity was detected in the woods, and the site personnel grew worried. When the Queen then escaped its containment and fled to the woods, a group of agents were sent after them, accompanied by a warning of seismic activity. And soon enough, a large burrow leading down into the King's underground tunnels and the Queen's lair was found, and the agents gave chase…
Other: The Larva King can, if it proves to be too much of a challenge, be brought down easily by feeding it any kind of large explosive. In doing so, the King will (with GM discretion) die instantly.

  • Burrowing Sanctuary: For as long as the Larva King is underground, its Sneak stat is doubled.
  • Swallow Whole: Upon a successful Melee attack, the Larva King swallows the target whole. They will be subject to a +5 against Pdef attack each "turn". If the Larva King is hit three times during this manouver or the target manages to save three times, the Larva King is forced to regurgitate the target, losing 3 PHealth.

Engagement Style: The Larva King mostly resides underground, only swooping up to use Swallow Whole on whatever is moving above it. If prey is within its tunnels, it will simply try to rush it and swallow it.

Name: Crimson Swarm
Purpose: General Enemy
Nature: The Crimson Swarm simply overwhelms foes with its massive numbers, controlled by the Mosquito Queen.
Description/History: The Crimson Swarm consists of hundreds of thousands, if not more, mosquitoes. They somewhat resemble their Queen, but usually have a few differences; they are much smaller (approximately the size of a large bumblebee),possess less chitinous plating and a hairy midsection. Otherwise they are almost alike.
Other: The Swarm is very weak to fire, and takes a -3 penalty to defenses against it. Against bullets it can use its massive Agility stat, so melee attacks are effective.

Skills:

  • Mind As One: The Crimson Swarm can use this skill in both offense and defense. In defense, it counts towards Pdef, and in offense it counts toward Melee. The Swarm gains a +2 bonus to either, if it is controlled by the Mosquito Queen.
  • Swarmingness: Against attacks that are not melee or don't have a wide spread radius (such as explosions, fire, shotguns etc.), the Swarm can use its Agility stat as defense, with a +6 bonus to the defense roll.
  • Crimson Veil: The Swarm reduces the Perception stat of PC's within it by 3.

Engagement Style: The Swarm engulfs all players within itself, using Crimson Veil to allow for the Queen to sneak around freely. Otherwise, it simply attacks or works as a defensive measure for the Queen, or as her weapon.
