[18:59] <Talonair> Rebecca reports!
[18:59] <TheRaven> Will heads over to the briefing room
[18:59] <@Daedalus> Herschel wanders in after a few minutes.
01[19:00] <@Nemi> The briefing room door is open. Inside, at the head of the room, is.. Hey, it's Voss. In formal uniform. Beside her and against the wall is a large, bearded, Slavic man in irregular fatigues with vest and webbing, his arms folded. There's folders on the table in a neat array. She gives critical looks to the personnel on their way in.
[19:00] <DiePotato> Artyom reports, with usual gear until he can know what's more specifically needed.
[19:00] <MarissaBee> After picking her equipment up, she arrives in the briefing room.
[19:01] <MarissaBee> Ethel, that is.
[19:01] <Talonair> Rebecca nods to Voss, picking up a file
[19:01] <@Daedalus> Herschel enters picking his nose, then flicking it into a trashcan. Great first impressions
[19:01] <MarissaBee> She's got her usual stuffhttp://img14.deviantart.net/d63f/i/2009/236/5/5/alexi___female_guardsman_by_jinxiedoodle.jpg with the inclusion of her trench coat, and the large, rifle-hiding brief case.
[19:01] <DiePotato> Artyom gets himself a folder and goes back to lean on the wall by the door.
[19:02] <@Daedalus> Herschel also grabs a file, and lightly scans the contents
[19:02] <MarissaBee> Ethel grabs some of the files and flits through them.
01[19:03] <@Nemi> There's maps and aerial photos of a section of coastal Panama, and then an island marked as "San Carmelo, disputed territory". Some objects are circled in red ink, including a large dock complex with no outbuildings on the Panamanian map, and on San Carmelo a large concrete structure with its own outside docks.
[19:03] <TheRaven> Will takes a file and sits. He's not decked out in full combat gear yet, shit's heavy.
[19:04] <MarissaBee> Ethel looks back to Voss expectantly.
[19:05] <DiePotato> Artyom curses internally at seeing the country. Aghhh hot weatherrrr
[19:05] <@Daedalus> Herschel has no idea what any of this means! He waits for someone to say something.
[19:05] <Talonair> Rebecca grins. Hot weather woo!
[19:05] <TheRaven> ~Oh great, jungle.~
[19:06] <MarissaBee> "I like the sounds of this. Tropical is a nice change of pace."
[19:06] <@Daedalus> ~Tropical? Wonder what that is~
01[19:07] <@Nemi> Voss peers at all present, and then grins her crooked grin. "So, ladies and gents, I'm sure many of you recall the earlier operation against the body-harvesters and human traffickers, Novavida, wherein we succeeded in freeing numerous slave personnel and retrieving an anomalous artifact used by Dr Henry Schumacher, the apparent leader of the organization, to both make his slaves and to provide Novavida's .. 'services'." She almost spits, but doesn't. "Thanks to the efforts of our own Lambda-9, we've got something. Confirmation of activity in Central America. While we haven't located their base of operations, we've found several sites where they've been active and interacting with other local factions. Lambda-9 will give you more information once you arrive. We've got a fairly small window of opportunity to act right now and so I'd like to get you moving quickly. But your objectives are as follows: Reach San Carmelo island, infiltrate the facility, and determine Novavida's interests there. Be ready for human contacts."
[19:08] <@Daedalus> "So… we are to take important documents, yes?"
01[19:08] <@Nemi> Voss straightens up. "Lambda-9's commander will give you further details once you're there. And, apologies for limited intel off-hand, but this was a fairly recent call-in." Voss nods to Herschel.
[19:08] <MarissaBee> "Time for the infantry, then." She looks to Artyom and Becca.
[19:08] <TheRaven> "Henry Schumacher…why does that name sound familiar?"
[19:08] <Talonair> Rebecca nods. "Got it."
[19:09] <DiePotato> Artyom nods and closes up his folder. "He was leader, just said."
[19:09] <@Daedalus> "Are we to expect men with guns?"
01[19:11] <@Nemi> "You'll be taking a small plane on down, where a driver will take you to the site circled on the Panamanian map. You'll link up with Lambda-9 there. I have a squad of men there as backup if necessary but their primary interest is keeping that site secure, as it's currently our best means of reaching San Carmelo. I hope you don't mind boat trips. And, yes, all intelligence points toward gunmen and.. Something about jaguar warriors. Lambda-9 will tell you more once you're there. Any questions?"
[19:11] <MarissaBee> "I don't mind boats at all. I do have a question, however. Is stealth a necessity?"
[19:12] <DiePotato> Artyom nodnods at the beginning and shakes his head at the questions bit. He pushes himself off the wall and starts to head for the exit to head down to his room then the MP.
01[19:13] <@Nemi> "That's up to your discretion, but a stealthy approach would likely do you well. You have a car waiting at the motorpool. Get going."
[19:13] <@Daedalus> "If they know we are there the men with guns will shoot at us."
[19:13] <Talonair> Rebecca heads down to the motorpool
[19:13] <MarissaBee> She nods. "This will be fun then."
[19:13] <@Daedalus> Herschel states, as if it should be obvious
[19:13] <@Daedalus> "Bullets are not so fun."
[19:13] <@Daedalus> He heads out tothe car.
[19:13] <MarissaBee> She looks at Herschel. "Then I hope you're ready to shoot back."
[19:13] <MarissaBee> Ethe heads out!
[19:13] <DiePotato> Artyom exits, stopping by his room to get his duffel, throwing a bunch of junk in it, and then heading down to the MP.
[19:13] <MarissaBee> *Ethel
[19:14] <@Daedalus> Herschel has a notable lack of gun.
[19:14] <@Daedalus> Or any equipment, for that matter.
[19:14] <MarissaBee> Once they reach the motorpool, Ethel does, in fact notice this.
[19:14] <MarissaBee> "Herschel!"
[19:14] <@Daedalus> "Osterberg!"
[19:14] <TheRaven> Will gets his gear and heads to the motor pool.
[19:14] <@Daedalus> He shouts, with equal intensity
[19:14] <MarissaBee> Ethel chuckles at this. He's a funny man. "You need a weapon?"
[19:15] <@Daedalus> "I am armed with the greatest weapon any man could have!" He taps the side of his head.
[19:15] <DiePotato> Artyom tosses his stuff into the vehicle, whatever it may be, and climbs on in. They have a timeline to meet. "If he does not need weapon he does not need one."
[19:15] <@Daedalus> And boards the vehicle
01[19:15] <@Nemi> People will have plenty of opportunity to fetch whatever gear they desire- and a radio, flashlight, vest, and FN-FAL is provided to any personnel who desire one- before they load up into the waiting van, which promptly drives them down to the airfield and to the worryingly small prop plane found there. The plane will leave promptly, leading to a… ~Time skip.~
[19:15] <MarissaBee> She shakes her head and gets in.
[19:15] <Talonair> Becca takes a radio and a vest, she has her own light
[19:16] <TheRaven> Will grabs one of each.
[19:16] <@Daedalus> Herschel takes a radio! He asks someone how to use it on the way there.
[19:16] <TheRaven> Other than the FAL, he's good for weapons.
[19:16] <MarissaBee> Ethel nabs some equipment, then checks her briefcase again! She also takes an FAL. New weapons? Nice.
[19:17] <DiePotato> Artyom's got a radio, flashlight-ooo, vest. Those're nice. He gets whatever and timeskips.
01[19:19] <@Nemi> The small plane, miraculously, lands in Panama without incident, where a olive drab generic jeep with a driver in irregular military gear, apparently of local extraction, waits. Somebody called ahead. Probably the pilot. It's wintertime in the tropics, meaning that it's only slightly less humid, hot, and green. Looks like a very undeveloped area that the driver takes the team through, but he IS following worn-in tire tracks, suggesting frequent prior use. Soon enough, the treeline breaks and the jeep pulls up to the docks seen in the aerial photo- little more than a narrow strip of white sand beach with projecting piers and built up concrete platforms for vehicles to drive to. A large motor boat with enclosure waits, bobbing in the shallows. As well as Lambda-9's own armoured vehicle.
[19:19] <MarissaBee> Ethel decides to leave the FAL, actually. She can tease Hans about the FG-42 later.
01[19:20] <@Nemi> It's a beautiful sunny day, and there's a handful of dark-skinned men dressed much like the driver hanging out on the docks by the boat itself. The driver stops to let everyone off.
01[19:20] <@Nemi> And this is where Talonair takes over for the exposition.
[19:20] <@Daedalus> "Ach! The air is heavy here." Herschel notes, taking off his long coat.
[19:21] <Talonair> Dana Cain, clad in clothes more suited for the tropics, strides over to the team. "This the team they sent?"
[19:21] <DiePotato> Artyom winces at this /heat and humidity/. He doesn't like this at all. He climbs out and follows wherever he needs to go.
[19:22] <TheRaven> Will is on edge, even moreso than usual. Jungle fighting is bad shit, man.
[19:22] <@Daedalus> "No! We are here for vacation."
[19:22] <@Daedalus> Herschel comments, chuckling.
[19:22] <MarissaBee> Ethel has never been to a tropical place before. Maybe it'll be nice.
[19:22] <DiePotato> Artyom rolls his eyes. "Da."
01[19:23] <@Nemi> The driver salutes Cain and nods without a word. He climbs out of the vehicle to leave Cain and Psi-7 to it.
[19:24] <Talonair> Dana smirks at Herschel. "I like you. Right, here's the sitation. Novavida is indeed active here, they've set up shop and are taking clients from Europe and central America. Doesn't /look/ like they're relying on trafficking for parts any more, but they're still getting recruits from somewhere, and most of the staff is still 'augmented'."
[19:24] <MarissaBee> Ethel looks at the vehicle. ~I should get driving lessons…~
[19:25] <@Daedalus> "Augmented? What does this word mean?"
[19:25] <MarissaBee> "Like, enhanced…. I think?"
01[19:26] <@Nemi> Behind Cain and Lambda-9's small team, the jeep driver heads over to the boat, where he shouts something in Spanish.
[19:26] <@Daedalus> "Hmm." Herschel considers.
01[19:26] <@Nemi> The men on the dock hurry aboard to prepare the ship for voyage.
[19:26] <Talonair> "They're also involved with two groups here, one local, one possibly European, looks to be the Greeks. Local group is supplying Novavida, but the cargo doesn't look big enough to be humans. Looks like it might be chemicals and pharmas. It looks like there's a /lot/ of tension between the groups. Novavida sends a lot of muscle to each meeting."
[19:26] <DiePotato> Artyom nodnods at that and loosens some of his clothing,
[19:27] <MarissaBee> "Maybe drug smuggling?"
[19:27] <DiePotato> "That is what she just said I believe."
[19:28] <TheRaven> "Any intel on who might be here? And orders on what to do with any possible high-value targets?"
[19:28] <Talonair> "And the Greeks do the same when meeting with the local group. As most of these activities are occuring in Central America and the Caribbean it's difficult to track movements very well, despite some very good informants. The local group seems to be entirely off the grid."
[19:28] <MarissaBee> "It was rhetorical, Artyom."
[19:28] <Talonair> "Let me finish the damn briefing first, Christ."
[19:28] <DiePotato> "Do not understand but alright." Shrug.
[19:29] <@Daedalus> Herschel listens with one ear as he examines the boat with one eye.
01[19:30] <@Nemi> It's a good-sized boat. Enough for .. Probably ten, twenty people to hang out aboard comfortably, and more if they cram on in. ~30' long. Five men aboard making it ready for sail. No name emblazoned, just painted default grey.
[19:30] <Talonair> "The Greeks aren't too well established here, but they're well equipped. Lots of personal armour, uniforms, and an icon that looks much like a blindfolded white mask overlaid upon a set of measuring scales features heavily on said uniforms. Novavida themselves have got a few spread out rally points and safeholds, their main facility seems very well-hidden.
[19:30] <Talonair> The 'locals' seem to have at least one island base. The one the informants agree most on is an island called San Carmelo, which features a large bunker complex erected as a stopover for naval vessels back in WWII."
[19:31] <Talonair> "Rumours include weird shapes and patterns that cause headaches if you look at them for too long, so we're suspecting anomalous influence there. Most people avoid San Carmelo for this exact reason."
[19:31] <MarissaBee> "Hm…" Ethel raises an eyebrow.
[19:31] <TheRaven> ~This just keeps getting better.~
[19:32] <@Daedalus> Herschel pretends to understand what's happening, and nods along.
[19:32] <DiePotato> Artyom sucks in a breath and exhales at all this info-mation
[19:34] <Talonair> "The local group seems to be called 'Sintonia Negra', or Black Signal. Our very own Jenny has found that they have a mainland enclave as well, located in an old Panamanian plantation. The locals seem to be oddly pale despite being mostly natives, and they're usually dressed in civilian wear, but oddly wearing exceptionally heavy metal or synthetic armour,
[19:34] <Talonair> apparently fashioned from scrap worked into actual functional protective gear that is far too heavy for the typical human to wear for extended periods. They're also using mostly hand-made weapons and shotguns and the like."
[19:36] <MarissaBee> "So gun-wise, we've got the upperhand?"
[19:36] <Talonair> "Weirdly, there are a lot of melee weapons as well. Mostly swords that look surprisingly well made despite being fashioned from scrap. Armaments and armour look to be highly personalised and hand crafted, and all bear iconography relating to the Bahlam, the jaguar deities that protected people and communities. Moreover, there's marks venerating the deity
[19:36] <Talonair> Naum, creator of human minds and thoughts. Lots of body paint on them as well. The symbols appear stylistically similar to Aztec or Mayan art."
[19:38] <TheRaven> Will is starting to get confused.
[19:38] <@Daedalus> "I do not wish to go in, what is expression?" He thinks for a moment, "…guns blazing."
[19:38] <Talonair> "We suspect some form of anomalous influence amongst this group, so tread carefully. Your target is the bunker on San Carmelo, we've seen the groups go inside this bunker, and leave a few hours later, having apparently made the trades they needed to."
[19:39] <MarissaBee> "Neither to I, Herschel, but it's better to be prepared."
01[19:39] <@Nemi> Behind Cain, two of the men from the boat hop back onto the dock and walk over. They don't say anything, yet.
[19:39] <Talonair> "Right, /now/ you may ask your questions."
01[19:40] <@Nemi> Artyom and Becca might recognize them as Boatman and Ramirez, from the incident in the Canaries.
[19:40] <DiePotato> Artyom's still trying to absorb all this information that has been presented. "So, men with guns and potentially anomalous men with swords is what we could go against?"
[19:40] <Talonair> "And the Novavida staff appear to be enhanced, yes."
[19:40] <@Daedalus> "It should be interesting, to say the least!"
[19:41] <@Daedalus> "I will wait in the boat."
[19:41] <@Daedalus> Herschel heads over, if he can, to board the craft.
[19:41] <MarissaBee> "How hard is the armor we're going to see, if we happen to know?"
[19:41] <DiePotato> "Alright. And all three could be inside, and we are to just see what we can find, da?"
[19:41] <DiePotato> Artyom likes to review really complex things.
[19:42] <TheRaven> "Okay, two things. One, are both groups confirmed hostile? And two, do we have any intel on who might be there from Novavida? Valuable targets, anyone we'd want alive?" He read the briefings on the plane, and knows Novavida are responsible for Amelie's condition.
01[19:42] <@Nemi> Boatman speaks up! "C'mon over soon as you're ready! We can cover immediates on the trip!" The remaining three on the boat proper help Herschel aboard. It's a pretty nice boat!
[19:42] <@Daedalus> He offers a hand to each of the boatmen and introduces himself
[19:42] <DiePotato> Artyom starts shuffling towards the boat carrying his duffel, walking slow to catch what Ms. Cain might say.
[19:42] <Talonair> "Unknown, as you might imagine with only the five of us we really haven't been keen on engaging them. We were just doing recon. You shouldn't see the Greeks, but the locals and Novavida could be present. And no intel on exact Novavida forces, /BUT/!"
01[19:43] <@Nemi> They reply in turn to Herschel. Mostly Spanish names. Dominguez, Santiago, and de la Roche.
[19:43] <Talonair> "Last time they were mostly slave soldiers and staff. Low morale, fighting only because they don't have a choice. Without their commanders, they should surrender pretty quickly. Try to go non-lethal on the Novavida staff, but I can't tell you about the local group."
[19:43] <@Daedalus> He does his best to pronounce them, and laughs at himself when he butchers them.
[19:44] <@Daedalus> the names, of course*
[19:44] <DiePotato> Artyom nodnods and hops into BOAT with his BAG.
[19:44] <Talonair> "Oh, and one more thing."
[19:44] <@Daedalus> Herschel introduces the boatmen to Artyom.
[19:44] <MarissaBee> Ethel shrugs. That's expected, I guess. She hops on.
[19:45] <DiePotato> Artyom waves to all the boatmen
01[19:45] <@Nemi> The gunmen on the boat share the laughter! They's Voss' crew, apparently, going by the red berets, the cracked skull over star with laurel wreath insignia on their vests, and so on. Boatman and Ramirez hop aboard soon after, getting everyone settled while keeping Cain nearby for parting words.
[19:45] <Talonair> "Last time I was responsible for a Psi-7 op, Denton got stabbed in the throat! Try not to let that happen again! Looks bad on my record!"
[19:45] <DiePotato> He doesn't even try to say their names.
[19:46] <@Daedalus> Herschel lights up his pipe and settles in.
[19:46] <MarissaBee> Ethel calls back. "We're not that stupid, this time!"
[19:47] <Talonair> Dana shakes her head and walks back to her group as Becca hops in the boat
[19:47] <TheRaven> Will boards. "Nonlethal, understood." He looks at the rest of the team. "Hear that? These guys are just ground troops, a bit like Amelie was. Don't go lethal unless you absolutely have to."
[19:48] <MarissaBee> Ethel nods to Will. "Will do, then." ~I should invest in rubber bullets.~
[19:48] <DiePotato> Artyom lights a cigarette and nods. He's sweating rather profusely already and tugging at his collar.
[19:48] <Talonair> "Only the Novavida ones though, right?"
[19:49] <Talonair> Rebecca is feeling great! She's not cold!
01[19:49] <@Nemi> Once everyone's properly aboard, Ramirez disappears into the cabin and the ship sets off with the rumble of motors. It's a /fast/ one. Boatman turns to regard the team. "Alright! Listen up! First off, I got a promotion, so call me Skipper now! What we've got right now: Observer's placing one Novavida vessel on-site, meaning an estimated squad of eight! Take down their commander- look for somebody who doesn't look miserable, that's probably him- and take him out, the rest will /probably/ surrender. We've got an unknown Sintonia Negra presence as well, feel free to shoot to kill and don't stare at any graffiti too long!"
[19:50] <DiePotato> Artyom nods and pulls on some sunglasses. It's also too bright for him outside. He starts sifting through his bag and considers his options. He brought his modded rifle and his Kalash. Quiet times or armor penetration, hm.
[19:50] <TheRaven> "Understood." Artyom's got a scoped SVT-40, right?
[19:50] <MarissaBee> Ethel nods, and sheds her jacket, strapping her ammo to her thigh straps. It's too hot for the coat.
[19:50] <DiePotato> He didn't bring it this time around.
[19:50] <DiePotato> Unfortunately.
01[19:51] <@Nemi> "But remember! Main objective- get in, figure out what the hell Novavida's meeting Sintonia's people for, what they're shipping, and get back. If we've got too many injuries, fall back- Ramirez will be taking you to a beach with the outboard, so we shouldn't get any sentries spotting us. /Shouldn't/. Elkin, you've got the longest range, so be ready if you need it. We good? We'll be there soon!"
[19:51] <MarissaBee> "Artyom, you want to use my rifle?" She looks over to the Russian bro.
[19:51] <@Daedalus> Herschel salutes the skipper, "Aye-aye, skipper!"
[19:52] <DiePotato> Artyom nods to Skipper and shakes his head at Ethel. "Have custom piece and Kalash, will be fine."
[19:52] <MarissaBee> "Very well, then."
[19:52] <Talonair> Rebecca nods and checks her gear
[19:53] <MarissaBee> Ethel sheds the rifle of its brief case.
01[19:53] <@Nemi> "Almost there!" Calls out Skipper from the front of the vessel. "Ramirez has the outboard ready, will say when it's time to go. Don't expect much in the way of support— if you need evac, use the outboard and we'll pick you up. No turrets on this one, had to snag it from the locals."
[19:54] <@Daedalus> Herschel just watches the water flow past. It's pretty
[19:55] <MarissaBee> Ethel figures out new ways to tease Hans with her gun.
[19:55] <DiePotato> Artyom picks his Kalash out. He'd rather not have to deal with that heavy armor that those guys are apparently toting, and the suppressed piece will not help at /all/ considering he only has his pistols otherwise.
[19:56] <TheRaven> Will is basically a walking turret anyways.
01[19:56] <@Nemi> It IS pretty. Deep Caribbean blue. Sunny blue skies, strong sun, smell of salt and the distant caws of water-birds. And then the ship slows and Ramirez is heard calling, "All aboard! We're going!" Ahead is a small island chain, one of which is larger and most heavily jungled than the others. The grey prominence of the concrete bunker looms ugly, like some kind of industrial cyst, from the greenery. There's, distant and hard to see, another ship already moored.
[19:57] <Talonair> Rebecca hops into the outboard. "We're expecting another ship?"
[19:57] <MarissaBee> Ethel's not a fan of the sun. Her arms are exposed without the jacket, and her scars are quite easy to see, now.
[19:57] <DiePotato> Artyom hops in, Kalash and spare magazines in tow.
[19:57] <@Daedalus> Herschel disembarks and embarks.
[19:58] <MarissaBee> she follows suit.
[19:58] <TheRaven> Will boards, eyeing the bunker. "Jungle and bunkers, great. And we don't have any explosives or flamethrowers."
[19:58] <@Daedalus> He settles in again and puffs on his pipe.
01[19:58] <@Nemi> "Hopefully not! Pretty sure you can't take Sintonia, Novavida, AND these Greeks!" Calls Skipper from up front. The outboard is small and hanging off the side of the larger boat, but it's big enough for the whole team and Ramirez. And thump. They're dropped into the water, the little speedboad zooming off toward the looming isle!
[19:59] <MarissaBee> "Maybe we can commandeer it." She's hopeful. "We /could/ empty it, and have the higher-ups take it.
[19:59] <MarissaBee> "
[19:59] <Talonair> "Let's not do that."
[19:59] <@Daedalus> "We are not pirates!"
[19:59] <@Daedalus> "At least, I do not think we are. I do not know what the rest of you were recruited for."
[19:59] <MarissaBee> Ethel shrugs. "Worth a thought." On the contrary, Ethel /is/ a pirate.
[20:00] <DiePotato> Artyom takes the time to screw on a suppressor to his Makarov. That really only acts as a counter-weight at this point. It's so worn. He reholsters and rests his AK in his lap.
01[20:01] <@Nemi> They close on the island rapidly, eventually pulling up into the shallows and sliding sideways partway up the beach. "This is your stop," Ramirez nods and gestures. It's a narrow white-sand beach, almost immediately leading off to jungle. The hulk of the bunker- and its derelict AA guns, rusting under the crisp sun- can be seen far and above the canopy. Probably a few hundred meters through thick ground cover.
[20:01] <TheRaven> Will is noticeably one-eyed and heavily armed, that's at least half a pirate.
[20:01] <MarissaBee> 4df+4 PERC Ethel's undead-senses are tingling.
[20:01] <Glacon> MarissaBee: PERC Ethel's undead-senses are tingling.: 5 (4df+4=0, 3+, 3+, 4-)
[20:01] <DiePotato> Artyom hops out into the sand, luckily he has boots, and slings his rifle over his shoulder tightly. Can't have that clattering around.
[20:01] <Talonair> 4df+5 (+2 if CA) Rebecca looks around
[20:01] <Glacon> Talonair: (+2 if CA) Rebecca looks around: 3 (4df+5=0, 4-, 4-, 0)
[20:02] <TheRaven> Will disembarks, dropping to one knee and covering the rest of the team
[20:02] <@Daedalus> 4df+4 (Thinking Outside the Box) What do we know about bunkers and their entrances?
[20:02] <Glacon> Daedalus: (Thinking Outside the Box) What do we know about bunkers and their entrances?: 1 (4df+4=4-, 4-, 0, 4-)
[20:03] <@Daedalus> Apparently nothing! Herschel disembarks.
01[20:03] <@Nemi> Indeed they are! Ethel can spy, well behind them, the faint glimmer of Skipper's fine vessel. And Ramirez grunting as he pushes the outboard back into the shallows. Everyone at large can tell that this beach is abandoned by all but dying jellyfish and stray wandering crabs. Looks like cutting along the beach toward the bunker is possible, while the most direct route would be to just cut through the brush.
01[20:03] <@Nemi> Herschel thinks bunkers are the coolest.
[20:03] <@Daedalus> They are the coolest. He taps out his pipe and heads along the treeline.
[20:04] <Talonair> "Cut through the jungle?"
[20:04] <DiePotato> "Noisy."
[20:04] <@Daedalus> "Should we knock? See if anyone is home?"
01[20:05] <@Nemi> Herschel's already moving along the treeline- at least one team member's decided where he's going already. Looks like a long walk through warm sands and scrubby greenery encroaching from the jungle's borders proper.
[20:05] <MarissaBee> Ethel hoists her rifle up and follows along.
[20:05] <TheRaven> "Oh for chrissakes…follow the dumbass, I guess."
[20:05] <Talonair> Rebecca walks over to Herschel. "I didn't mean actually cutting."
[20:05] <DiePotato> Artyom follows along after Herschel, adjusting the vest.

[20:08] <TheRaven> (Whoops, that should be +7)
01[20:09] <@Nemi> It's a pleasant day for a walk. Crisp, warm air, cooling breeze coming off the sea, bright sun, birds and insects in the distance. The group, after about thirty minutes of marching, will come round to one side of the bunker. They can easily see now how the docks are recent additions- wooden- with a plank pathway leading away from the shoreline and into the treeline, where it cannot be followed further from this angle. There's no clear means inside the bunker from here- in fact, the reason why it looms so much becomes readily apparent. Erosion must have eaten away at the landmass below, leaving a good portion of it hanging over the sea, propped up by large metal and concrete pillars disappearing into the water below. The group's approach isn't noticed by anything- though Will doesn't spot anyone to see them, even on the sailing vessel at the docks, bobbing in the surf.
[20:10] <TheRaven> "Dead quiet, they must all be inside."
[20:10] <@Daedalus> Herschel looks around, "Hmm. No door."
[20:10] <Talonair> "Hmm… Want me to try and get on top or underneath?"
[20:10] <@Daedalus> He goes around to look for one around the side.
01[20:10] <@Nemi> There IS the plank pathway from the docks up into the trees. That probably is present just to make an easy route to the bunker's actual entrance.
[20:10] <DiePotato> "Perhaps entrance is in jungle?"
[20:10] <MarissaBee> Ethel sighs, and goes after Herschel.
[20:11] <@Daedalus> He goes up the plank pathway.
[20:11] <@Daedalus> Quietly, of course.
[20:11] <DiePotato> Artyom peeks down that interesting plank pathway. After walking over there of course.
[20:11] <Talonair> Rebecca follows Herschel
[20:11] <TheRaven> "…has this guy never been in the field in his life?"
03[20:11] * PyroticMadness is now known as madness_
[20:12] <MarissaBee> Ethel raises her battle-rifle and brings up the rear behind Herschel.
[20:12] <@Daedalus> "I have been in many fields, friend."
01[20:12] <@Nemi> Coming around, the group will wind that the pathway DOES, in fact, continue on through the trees! There's evidence that there used to be a paved roadway of sorts here, though erosion treated it terribly. The wooden installation's fairly new and cuts neatly through the jungle. It continues on for about thirty yards before making an abrupt turn and opening up into a clearing studded with old concrete pylons and barriers. [PAUSE FOR DESC]
01[20:17] <@Nemi> The group, having moved quite stealthfully- or perhaps just because of distance- appears to be unnoticed by the clearing's inhabitants. Almost dead ahead is the concrete mass of the bunker itself with a large, fairly new looking heavy metal double-door embedded in its side. And there's people here— looks like seven slender figures in black fatigues and white coats, with black armour vests and webbing strapped on. Each figure's carrying.. Looks like an SMG. The figures are waiting, clearly nervous, in various locations about the clearing. Some three have made a little cluster behind one of the larger ruined pylons, where they are chatting amongst one another. Two more pace the perimeter, worriedly watching the trees. And two more are up by the door, facing away, and flanking a tall male figure- also in white with black vest and armour- who is standing arms folded, impatient. A FN-FAL is strapped over one shoulder and he wears a white beret.
01[20:18] <@Nemi> The group is, amazingly enough, unnoticed! Eight people in total, 3 by the door, 3 clustered behind a barrier, and two jumpy sentries.
01[20:18] <@Nemi> [UNPAUSE]
[20:18] <@Daedalus> "Ah… here is something interesting." Is there any way to sneak around them? Any stragglers?
[20:18] <TheRaven> Will looks for any sign of any of them carrying a sidearm. Usually a quick way to identify officers.
[20:19] <DiePotato> Artyom blinks slowly. And zeroes in on the tall guy with the only rifle.
[20:19] <Talonair> Becca looks at the guy with the fancy hat. Fancy hat equals leader
[20:19] <Talonair> Everyone knows that
[20:19] <MarissaBee> 4df+4 PERC Ethel tries to identify if they're the ones they need to go non-lethal on.
[20:19] <Glacon> MarissaBee: PERC Ethel tries to identify if they're the ones they need to go non-lethal on.: 2 (4df+4=4-, 4-, 0, 0)
[20:19] <MarissaBee> (oof)
01[20:19] <@Nemi> One could presumably duck into the treeline and circle around. In fact, this looks like a /terrible/ position to try to hold— which might contribute to the jumpiness of the personnel. The two sentries are the most spread out, being both furthest away from the others and furthest from one another, but they're also moving.
01[20:20] <@Nemi> Will: You can pretty well see that /everyone/ has a sidearm. From the size and contours, a FN High-Power. Interesting.
[20:20] <DiePotato> Artyom slowly pulls his Kalash off his back and into his arms.
01[20:20] <@Nemi> Ethel: Well, the non-beret-wearers look a lot like freaked-out young women. Are they to be spared? You're not sure.
[20:20] <DiePotato> He looks blankly back at the others and points at the top of his head and tilts his head.
[20:21] <@Daedalus> "I am going into the treeline." Herschel states, "We will take those two down." He nods to the sentries.
[20:21] <MarissaBee> Ethel shoulders the rifle, and draws her SMG. She looks down the sights without her finger on the trigger.
[20:21] <@Daedalus> "We might take their uniforms."
[20:21] <DiePotato> He makes a wait motion to Herschel
[20:21] <@Daedalus> "And then blend in with the others.'
[20:21] <MarissaBee> "That's…. Actually good idea."
[20:21] <TheRaven> "Do we have an ID on who they are?"
[20:21] <DiePotato> "…They are not wearing heavy armor."
[20:21] <MarissaBee> Ethel shakes her head.
[20:22] <Talonair> "If they're Novavida, non-lethal." Becca's…. Actually suggesting non-lethal?
[20:22] <DiePotato> "So they are not locals."
01[20:22] <@Nemi> Ethel: Looking closer..! The nearest sentry is a haggard-looking young Slavic woman who looks like she's suffered a beating sometime recently. There's a large metal collar with some visible circuitry around her neck, just peeking up from under herj acket.
[20:22] <Talonair> Strange
01[20:22] <@Nemi> No visible insignia.
[20:22] <@Daedalus> Herschel nods, "Go?"
[20:22] <MarissaBee> "Right. No headshots or chestshots, then?"
[20:22] <DiePotato> "And they are not carrying close range weapons."
[20:22] <Talonair> "The guy with the hat is the leader, has to be."
[20:22] <TheRaven> "Take down fancy hat, guessing he's in charge, leave the rest."
[20:22] <DiePotato> "…Shoot leader."
[20:22] <Talonair> "Cut off the head."
[20:22] <DiePotato> "Can take shot."
[20:22] <MarissaBee> Ethel looks to Artyom. "Want me to take the leader, or you?"
[20:22] <Talonair> "Try to be quiet about it." Becca goes to blend into the trees
[20:23] <MarissaBee> Ethel has her suppressor attatched.
[20:23] <Talonair> 4df+7 (SNK+CA) Becca tries to circle around

[20:23] <DiePotato> Artyom rolls his eyes and wishes he had his rifle. He points at himself.
[20:23] <MarissaBee> She shrugs.
[20:23] <@Daedalus> 4df+8 Going around
[20:23] <Glacon> Daedalus: Going around: 6 (4df+8=0, 4-, 0, 4-)
[20:23] <DiePotato> Suppressors don't help when the entire crew is right there.
01[20:23] <@Nemi> Stealth from those trying to get closer via trees. Which is, fortunately, not all that difficult! And yes, those SMGs look very real. Franchi, maybe.
[20:23] <Talonair> Becca already rolled!
[20:23] <DiePotato> Artyom starts taking deep breaths.
[20:24] <TheRaven> Will gets into position to lay down cover fire if necessary.
[20:24] <DiePotato> 4df+9 (SNK+TS) He also moves closer to get a clearer shot
[20:24] <Glacon> DiePotato: (SNK+TS) He also moves closer to get a clearer shot: 8 (4df+9=4-, 0, 3+, 4-)
01[20:24] <@Nemi> Becca, Herschel, and Arty are able to get into the treeline without much trouble at all. That leaves Will and Ethel on the plank path- which gives them a nice firing lane across the clearing.
[20:24] <@Daedalus> Herschel tries to get close to one of the sentries, to take them out quietly.
[20:25] <Talonair> Rebecca tries to do the same for the sentry on her side
[20:25] <MarissaBee> Ethel gets to a knee and raises her SMG, in case she needs to actually use it.
[20:25] <DiePotato> Artyom clicks the safety off and looks out towards the leader. Hmmm, probably best to aim for the chestish area. He glances back as he raises the rifle to make sure he's cleared to shoot from Becca or whoever.
01[20:26] <@Nemi> While the patrolling sentries move with practice- they even hold their SMGs right, their lack of team coordination means that they're woefully on their own. The pylons further give Herschel and Becca easy opportunity to advance without being spotted by the others. Melee for takedowns, you two!
[20:26] <@Daedalus> 4df+7 (Melee) Go to sleep…

[20:26] <Glacon> Talonair: Try to grab, gag and drag out of line of sight. She wants them awake so they can point out the leader: 8 (4df+7=0, 3+, 0, 0)
01[20:28] <@Nemi> [PAUSE FOR DESC]
01[20:31] <@Nemi> Herschel times his approach very neatly, catching the sentry as she passes by a pylon that obscures her position from the others. It's a quick 'crack' to the back of the skull and she drops like a sack of potatoes— but with a loud reflexive 'omf!' The noise makes the trio by the tank trap jump and look over- one calls out "Jsi v pohodě?" Arty'd recognize it as Czech- she's asking 'Are you okay?' Similarly, the trio over by the door starts turning, and the man in the beret barks out something.
01[20:32] <@Nemi> Rebecca, however, catches her own sentry completely off-guard with similar cover, and has her down, head back, and in an armlock without so much as a whimper. That's a neat takedown, but the rest of the squad's alert to /something/..
01[20:32] <@Nemi> [ ACTION ]
[20:32] <DiePotato> Artyom's lip curls downwards, and he keeps taking deep breaths aiming for Beret!Man.
[20:33] <Talonair> She presses a finger to her lips and whispers. "Is the one in the beret the leader?"
01[20:33] <@Nemi> [PC GO: 3 Novavida troops by tank trap, 2 + Beret Man by door. One Sentry down by Herschel, good cover. One sentry down but not out by Rebecca, also in good cover.]
[20:33] <@Daedalus> Herschel attempts to drag the woman to a better position to hide, as he examines what she's wearing.
[20:33] <TheRaven> Will sights in on Beret Guy, waiting for the shit to hit the fan.
01[20:33] <@Nemi> Rebecca: It's the battered-looking Slavic girl. She whimpers something, voice raspy, and nods.
[20:33] <Talonair> Becca gives a thumbs up to Arty
[20:33] <DiePotato> He glances back at Rebecca again with urgency
[20:34] <DiePotato> And nods
[20:34] <DiePotato> looks back
01[20:34] <@Nemi> Herschel: Looks a lot like Amelie's outfit. Nicer, thinner material as fits the tropics. Gloves, everything but face covered, heavier vest and webbing worn over the white jacket.
[20:34] <DiePotato> 4df+9 (RNG+OSOSOL) With a flip to semi-automatic, Artyom fires twice into the chest of Beret!Man. Hopefully the HEFT and POWER of the Kalash round will punch through that vest. Headshots are a bit lofty with an unscoped rifle.
[20:34] <Glacon> DiePotato: (RNG+OSOSOL) With a flip to semi-automatic, Artyom fires twice into the chest of Beret!Man. Hopefully the HEFT and POWER of the Kalash round will punch through that vest. Headshots are a bit lofty with an unscoped rifle.: 10 (4df+9=4-, 0, 3+, 3+)
[20:35] <MarissaBee> Ethel watches on.
[20:36] <@Daedalus> He mistakes the woman for Amelie for a second, but sets her down in a soft place as he goes to deal with the other approaching soldiers.
01[20:36] <@Nemi> Will and Ethel have an ACTION if desired.
[20:37] <MarissaBee> Are there any left?
[20:37] <TheRaven> Does the beret guy drop?
01[20:39] <@Nemi> This is still PC turn. Assume all actions are roughly simultaneous.

01[20:42] <@Nemi> [PAUSE]
01[20:43] <@Nemi> Herschel drops his sentry gently into the soft grassy loam below. He's in a good spot— behind that much concrete he'd be a hard target, and harder to hit as well. Similarly, Rebecca's also in a good spot, but with a conscious (if not struggling) contact in her arms. At the very least those two aren't doing anything.
01[20:44] <@Nemi> Ethel manages to move on up easily enough- she doesn't make herself too obvious, and she's able to slide behind another concrete barrier (how convenient, these oddly strewn chest-high walls). However.
01[20:46] <@Nemi> Artyom and Will open up. High velocity high calibur rounds impact the man in the torso, and hard. In a startling demonstration of cinematic physics, his vest does little to diffuse the impact, instead leading to him being thrown bodily into the heavy bunker door, where he slides down leaving a trail of shiny red. Amazingly, he's still alive- one of the soldiers with him grabs him and attempts to drag him down into cover behind another concrete barrier.
[20:47] <TheRaven> "Drop your weapons!"
01[20:47] <@Nemi> Meanwhile, the remaining door soldier and the three by the tank trap spread out- two by the tank trap rush over to a barrier and slide into place, while the other- heedful of lead in the air, remains where she is. The other door soldier falls in behind another pylon and peers out. The four of them open fire with neat bursts from their Franchi SMGs- however, they do nothing but scythe through the trees near Will or pock Ethel's cover.
01[20:48] <@Nemi> [PAUSE means PAUSE.]
[20:48] <@Daedalus> (It's their turn, TheRaven)
[20:48] <TheRaven> Opps, mussed the pause
01[20:49] <@Nemi> UPDATE: Two down. 2 behind barrier, 1 behind tank trap, 1 behind pylon, 1 behind opposite pylon with wounded officer. Weirdly, there's a buzzing, electrical sound from the soldier in Rebecca's clutches- she can feel an electrical pulse, and smell ozone and burning flesh, and the battered-looking trooper writhes and makes a silent scream. Similarly, the others jerk abruptly.
01[20:49] <@Nemi> [ENEMY TURN COMPLETE. PC TURN. UNPAUSE.]
[20:50] <Talonair> "… Shock collars! They've got shock collars!" Can she see the officer?
[20:51] <TheRaven> "Sonofabitch! Move in, get the officer!"
[20:51] <DiePotato> 4df+9 (SNK+TS) Artyom's turn is going to be spent withdrawing a bit and trying to get an angle on the officer to ensure he /deads/. Luckily he hasn't been shot at yet so his heartrate's still fine.

[20:51] <@Daedalus> Can Herschel sneak around to slip into the bunker while the others are occupied?
01[20:51] <@Nemi> Not from your angle, Becca. You'd have to move up.
[20:51] <Talonair> She does so, sprinting to the next bit of cover as she draws her Uzis
01[20:51] <@Nemi> Herschel: You could probably reach the door if you skirted the clearing, but it'd put you into the line of fire of at least 3 of them, and the only obvious entrance looked sealed tight.
[20:52] <@Daedalus> Can he look around for another entrance?
[20:52] <TheRaven> Will stays in position, trying to suppress but not hit the other Novavida guys
[20:52] <Talonair> If she gets a line on the officer, she'll shoot
[20:53] <MarissaBee> Ethel feels an odd pang of hatred…
01[20:54] <@Nemi> Artyom: You fade into the treeline easily enough. The Novavida troops are acting pretty professionally, all things considered, despite their battered and weary appearances- There's shouts of "Kryj mě! Pokrok!" and "Jsem připnul!" You've got an angle easily enough on the doorguard and the officer— the doorguard's apparently trying to do some field medicine, having peeled the officer's vest off to try to get at his bullet wounds. Her Franchi lies nearby, as does the FAL. Artyom still has a non-movement action available.
01[20:54] <@Nemi> Herschel: He can indeed look!
01[20:54] <@Nemi> Becca- sprinting is pretty dangerous, especially with all the rounds in the air, but we'll get to that once Artyom and Herschel's actions are concluded.
[20:54] <Talonair> Can Becca shoot?
[20:55] <@Daedalus> 4df+3 Gotta be more than one way into this thing

01[20:56] <@Nemi> [PAUSE]
01[20:59] <@Nemi> Ethel and Will keep the area saturated with controlled bursts, preventing the Novavida troopers from moving up and engaging effectively. While they do have SMGs, they were caught unawares, which has put them at a significant disadvantage. Relying so heavily on officers is also a significant disadvantage, seeing as Artyom moved to flank and Becca, using her allies' cover fire, managed to sprint near on across the entire field to bound around the pylon. Without his vest, the guy doesn't stand a chance: Though clearly an older military man, this doesn't convey resistance to bullets, especially when it's a spray of .45 and a pair of 7.62 impacts. He is very clearly dead, leaving the doorguard who was overlooking him stunned and splattered with blood.
01[21:00] <@Nemi> Herschel: Looking around.. There's a few signs of alternate entry revealed by erosion. This door appears to be a new installation, given that you find another door, about ten feet off the ground and without an actual door to fill its opening. Additionally, there's a large grating that must have once brought in water from a spring on the island- that or let sewage out into the ocean- but rust has rendered it easy enough to break through if you so chose.
01[21:01] <@Nemi> The other doorguard whirls on seeing Rebecca move up to an angle she can reach— which coincidentally also brings her in sight of the very dead officer. She hurriedly throws down her Franchi SMG and shouts "Ten parchant je mrtev!" On hearing that, even with all the rattling gunfire, the others throw their guns and drop to the ground, arms up and over their heads.
01[21:02] <@Nemi> The would-be-medic twitches a little, big-eyed and staring at the corpse.
01[21:02] <@Nemi> [COMBAT OVER. 1 dead. 1 neutralized. 6 surrendered. ]
01[21:02] <@Nemi> Proceed.
[21:02] <@Daedalus> Herschel goes over to the grate and tries to pry it off.
[21:03] <TheRaven> Will ceases fire as soon as they drop their weapons. "Move in, secure them, let Lambda-9 figure out what to do with them."
[21:03] <MarissaBee> Ethel stands and advances, with orders from Will in her mind.
[21:03] <Talonair> Becca scans over them, before holstering her Uzis and going to secure the surrendered soldiers. "We're not going to hurt you."
[21:03] <DiePotato> Artyom steps out of the treeline and into the clearing keeping his rifle trained for now. "Nebudeme vás zabít, pokud nechcete dělat něco hloupého.""
[21:04] <DiePotato> He lowers his rifle as well and switches out magazines.
[21:04] <Talonair> Becca is trying /really hard/ not to let Masquerade's influence take over, and it shows
[21:04] <Talonair> She shakes a little, eyes focussing on all the little weak points momentarily
[21:05] <TheRaven> "Easy, Rebecca." He knows that look.
[21:06] <DiePotato> Arty goes and starts restraining peeps. He waves someone else over to assist.
01[21:06] <@Nemi> The one by the tank trap hasn't dropped prone, and is instead kneeling, arms up. She calls out to Arty- "Nechceme potíže! Prosím, máme zádržné kapely v našich kapsách! Nebudeme nikam!" It's hurried, nervous— she seems more ahold of herself than the others, many of whom are making odd sobbing sounds or quivering where they lie. They all look to have been physically abused- and then there's that smell of charred flesh.
[21:06] <MarissaBee> Ethel approaches the group! "Can we have their weapons rounded up?"
[21:07] <Talonair> Rebecca looks at Will and nods, busying herself by collecting their weapons together."
[21:07] <Talonair> -"
[21:07] <@Daedalus> Assuming Herschel gets the grate open, he drops in.
[21:08] <DiePotato> "Dobře, protože jste nyní v bezpečí." Artyom nods. He continues restraining them. Protocol.
01[21:08] <@Nemi> It looks easy enough to get them restrained, and they truly do not look to resist at all— true to Tank Trapper's words, each one of them has a set of metal cuff restraints in their vests. Which is an interesting choice that makes Novavida's tactics more worrisome. But nonetheless.. The Franchis and FN High-Powers are gathered up. Very uniform firearms, but similarly relatively uncommon ones. Someone would probably find that significant.
01[21:08] <@Nemi> Herschel: A swift kick is enough to open the grate! And it's off to #tooltim!
01[21:08] <@Nemi> #tooltime, too! Not Tim.
[21:09] <DiePotato> "Curious how they are being supplied. Those are military grade." Arty clicks the last pair of cuffs on.
[21:10] <Talonair> Rebecca leaves them in a sensible place for a recovery team to find. "Rich suppliers."
[21:10] <TheRaven> "Probably surplus from the war."
[21:10] <MarissaBee> Ethel approaches one of the unconscious guards, one of the ones that was shocked… Can she use their outfits as disguises?
[21:11] <DiePotato> "Still makes me wonder." Artyom slings his rifle and tightens the strap, looking around. "…Where is funny man?"
01[21:11] <@Nemi> Will knows his guns- Franchis are recent developments. Rather top of the line cutting-edge SMGs, for that matter, but in a caliber that suggests large stocks of surplus ammo.
[21:11] <Talonair> ".. Oh shit." Rebecca looks around for where Herschel went
01[21:12] <@Nemi> Ethel: Looks like she probably could, if she bothered to undress said soldier. None of them are particularly large, though the uniforms are very well-fitted.
01[21:12] <@Nemi> Gang: There is a large, kicked-open grate leading into darkness. Maybe that's where he went?
[21:12] <MarissaBee> Roll AGI for quick-undress?
[21:12] <Talonair> Becca heads that way!
[21:12] <MarissaBee> Ethel's in the mood for sneaky snekay.
[21:12] <MarissaBee> *sneaky
[21:12] <DiePotato> Artyom sighs. "Ethel, come, we are-what are you doing."
[21:12] <DiePotato> Blink.
[21:13] <TheRaven> "Jesus, somebody put a bell on that guy or something. Where's he gone?"
[21:13] <MarissaBee> "Herschel had… A good idea. I'm thinking of grabbing a uniform."
[21:13] <DiePotato> "Ethel they are most likely only ones here."
[21:13] <Talonair> Becca heads into the pipe!
[21:13] <DiePotato> "And you do not have scars like them."
[21:14] <MarissaBee> "And if they're not?" She looks to him. "It's better safe than sorry."
[21:14] <DiePotato> "If they are not then they would speak Czech."
[21:14] <DiePotato> "And you do not know Czech."
01[21:14] <@Nemi> Ethel strips the unconscious soldier! There's black fatigue leggings and turtleneck shirt, along with the insulated shell jacket, and so on. Looks a lot like what Amelie wears. And.. Oh. Oh. Under the uniform? This girl makes Amelie look /neat/. Those scars are huge, fresh, and viciously red and angry. And then there's the charring on her neck from the shock collar.
[21:15] <TheRaven> Will just follows Rebecca.
01[21:15] <@Nemi> There's nothing neat about them. It's like a lunatic threw her together out of scraps below the neck. It's nauseating to look at.
[21:15] <Talonair> (TT for pipe?)
[21:15] <MarissaBee> "Someone's working fast… Mass-production, maybe." Ethel disguises herself!
[21:15] <DiePotato> "…Redress her in your clothes at least."
01[21:15] <@Nemi> Will, Becca: To #Tooltim!
01[21:15] <@Nemi> Tooltime, too.
[21:15] <MarissaBee> Ethel does just that!
[21:16] <DiePotato> "Does not deserve being left with no clothes." Artyom shakes his head and drops down the pipe into Tooltime
[21:16] <MarissaBee> After redressing her, Ethel stands up. "Second pair of clothing I'm losing… At least I'm leaving behind a different insignia." She walks over to Artyom.
01[21:17] <@Nemi> Ethel joins the gang in the PIPE DREAM.
[21:18] <MarissaBee> Tooltime?
01[21:18] <@Nemi> Tooltime.
[22:31] <@Daedalus> Herschel is here!
[22:37] <@Daedalus> "Show me this truth. I will let my own eyes decide."
01[22:37] <@Nemi> As is the Bahlam door guardian. He nods and removes a hand from the pommel of his mace— a large metal nut forced onto the end of the rebar— to push open the door. He steps aside for Herschel. Inside is.. Surprisingly bright, holes in the roof letting in much of the bright sun outside while leaving vegetation to trail in like streamers around the light rays. And in the centre of the room, atop a mound of colourful tropical flowers, is a dais upon which rests what looks to be an enormous human heart, its flesh purple and red in the strange light. It beats, filling the chamber with sound, though its branching arteries and vessels seem to go nowhere, wrapping in on themselves. And attending it is a frail-looking pale girl with pale hair and pale eyes and in a pale dress, dark stains about her eyes and mouth and hands and bare feet. She runs a hand on the beating object's surface, cooing to it softly, as if to calm it with a lullaby.
[22:38] <@Daedalus> He steps forward, "[God almighty protect me…]" He mutters in Yiddish
[22:39] <@Daedalus> "Hello?" He tries, approaching the girl.
01[22:40] <@Nemi> The room itself is warm and fragrant, and he'll notice that candles are lit all about the perimeter of the room, illuminating small strange shrines featuring abstract geometric symbology he doesn't recognize along with the more familiar Mesoamerican-styled imagery. The girl doesn't look up. "You're not like them, are you?" She says. Her voice is soft and whispery, and yet seems to carry itself perfectly to Herschel's ears.
[22:42] <@Daedalus> "I… I try my best not to be." He smiles softly at her, "Who are you?"
03[22:43] * Awayphex_ is now known as Aphex_
[22:46] <@Daedalus> Herschel is suddenly a bit ashamed of his ragtag appearance. He should've gone to the tailor, or at least wiped off his shoes after he left the drainpipe.
01[22:46] <@Nemi> "I am Sariel," she says, voice singsong. All her attention appars to be on the enormous heart. "I am but an envoy from my Lady to these noble knights. They fear and distrust you. As do the New Life men fear us. And as do the seekers of vengeance. And yet they seek us out regardless. Do you know why?"
[22:50] <@Daedalus> Herschel has to take this in for a moment, trying to process it, "The one at the door said that in this room there was truth. Perhaps… perhaps also power? Maybe that is what they seek. I do not know. I was sent here on a mission, to discover the reason for shipments. Why one group was meeting others here."
[22:51] <@Daedalus> "I did not expect to find… this." He gestures to the rest of the room.
01[22:54] <@Nemi> "Yes. The truth you seek." She finally lifts her head to look at Herschel. Such a small thing. "Everyone wants life, power, and they are so willing to pay the cost without understanding what it means. Their greed is a poison. We can only hope our gift cleanses them whilst giving them too what they seek." Her eyes are empty, pale, and focus on some space beyond Herschel and perhaps not in this world. She's silent for a moment.
[22:59] <@Daedalus> He examines her features carefully, "What is your gift, if I may ask?"
01[23:00] <@Nemi> ".. Our Lady weeps for this world. Her heart bleeds for its people. The blood and the tears, together.. They can make you something more. You— you are all dreams made of flesh. I used to be too.. But now I am flesh made of dream. You can too, Herschel Osterberg. You can too.."
[23:01] <@Daedalus> He blinks, "I… I did not tell you my name."
01[23:02] <@Nemi> "No. You did not. You need not, for we are all one. We are all a plural.. But I remember. I remember what it was to be singular. You too could be a plural. Dream-made flesh."
[23:06] <@Daedalus> "Dream-made flesh… I do not understand." He shakes his head, "Everyone cannot have what they want, that is what makes life worth living. The challenge, the struggles… if you take that away from a man as you do his… what is word? identity? Then you have taken everything that has made that man."
01[23:10] <@Nemi> Sariel tilts her head. "My Lady agrees. The thought was once.. All as one. But for what good is that? No, no. The identity is everything. It is what keeps you human. But singular-becomes-plural allows for more. Thoughts across aeons and fathoms. Flesh of dreams does not rot."
[23:12] <@Daedalus> "And that is what you offer? A life connected to others…" He considers, "Hmm… no… no that is not what I am here for. I am here to gather information about, eh, Novavida."
[23:12] <@Daedalus> "Among other things."
01[23:15] <@Nemi> "Yes." Sariel sits amidst the flowers. "The New Life Men. That is all they care for. New life, health, immortality. They serve My Lady's purpose regardless."
01[23:15] <@Nemi> She runs her hand down the surface of the heart and coos at it, as if to calm it.
[23:16] <@Daedalus> Herschel tries to find a seat next to or near her, "What have they come here for, and what do they do for you?"
01[23:18] <@Nemi> There's not a lot of seating in the chamber. The wet heart pulses. "They come for new life and vigor to sell in a bottle. We give it to them. And that is enough. The song is spread, and flesh becomes dreams, and my Lady is pleased. We do not understand why they fear us so. We give them all that they want.."
[23:19] <@Daedalus> He nods and chuckles. "You tell them your product takes them places, but not neccessarily anywhere they would want to be. I understand." He looks over at the heart, "What is this… beating thing?"
01[23:22] <@Nemi> "We tell them the truth. They do what they wish." Sariel runs her hand across the heart. "It is the gift of the Lady. It weeps her Blood and her Tears. It makes us strong, and we can share. It is enough. Do you want some?"
[23:22] <@Daedalus> "Only if it is Kosher." He chuckles.
[23:24] <Talonair> Rebecca steps in
[23:24] <MarissaBee> Ethel follows.
[23:24] <@Daedalus> Herschel is sitting there, next to a girl.
01[23:25] <@Nemi> Behind him, Ethel and Becca arrive. Sariel doesn't seem surprised at all. In fact, she giggles at the joke. ".. We like you, Herschel Osterberg." Sariel and Herschel are sitting atop a heap of flowers under ivy-and-greenery-leaking holes in the ceiling, under a circle of light and beside an enormous pulsating human heart.
[23:25] <Talonair> "… Hii.."
[23:26] <MarissaBee> Ethel just watches.
03[23:26] * WetBeard is now known as SleepBeard
[23:26] <@Daedalus> "The others are here now." He waves to Ethel and Becca, he turns to her, "It is our job to contain things, such as you. I do not want to fight. I do not want any bloodshed. I wish to know if you will come peacefully."
01[23:28] <@Nemi> Sariel looks past and through Herschel. She's a slim, frail thing, pale skinned, pale-eyed, pale-haired, in a pale dress. Maybe fifteen, sixteen at most. ".. I was afraid of this. No. We will not come with you. We have so much to do.."
[23:31] <Talonair> "… I hate to say it, but I don't think we can win that fight."
[23:32] <@Daedalus> "Then we will leave this place."
[23:32] <Talonair> She nods
[23:32] <MarissaBee> Ethel looks at the pulsating heart. ~I think we can.~
[23:32] <@Daedalus> Herschel stands, "Will you allow us, Sariel.
[23:32] <@Daedalus> ?"
[23:32] <Talonair> Becca looks at Ethel. "Ethel I swear to fuck if you do anything stupid/"
[23:33] <MarissaBee> Ethel hasn't moved much more than her head. She's got a calm expression on her face.
01[23:33] <@Nemi> ".. Thank you." Sariel says, softly. Her voice carries to each of them as if whispered directly into their ears. "Yes. Please go. Use the drain. The others- Xacal is very patient, but the others are not. We are many in dreams, but we.. We are not like the Tear Drinkers of old. We are not /many-in-one/. And that means that some of us are.."
[23:34] <@Daedalus> ~Tear Drinkers?~ "Thank you, for not killing us." Herschel smiles, "But know, that if we find you again, we will take you in."
[23:35] <@Daedalus> "That is our mission. Not one with many specifics, but a mission all the same."
01[23:35] <@Nemi> "And then I will have to kill you all. Goodbye. I liked your company."
[23:35] <Talonair> She nods, turning to leave
[23:36] <@Daedalus> Herschel smiles wide as he backs towards the entrance, "Honesty is quite the virtue. Auf Wiedershin, Sariel."
[23:36] <@Daedalus> He exits.
[23:37] <@Daedalus> And heads back to the storm drain.
[23:37] <MarissaBee> Ethel is quite interested in that heart… She turns a little, and walks towards the door, but she looks back a few times.
[23:37] <Talonair> Rebecca herds Ethel out
[23:38] <TheRaven> Will makes his way out to the Novavida boat. Description or whatever?
[23:38] <MarissaBee> She's herded.
[23:38] <DiePotato> Artyom heads out behind Will
[23:39] <@Daedalus> Herschel lights up his pipe as he heads to the boat. He tells one of the others more experienced in use with the radios to call for the soldiers outside to be picked up.
[23:39] <MarissaBee> Ethel now quite likes her new outfit.
01[23:39] <@Nemi> The group is unaccosted on their way to the Novavida boat. And in fact, a few hale young men- a little pale, but otherwise looking perfectly normal- help herd the Novavida captives to the larger vessel. They depart without a word. There's a working radio on the boat, too! And a message written to one 'Captain John Erlich', commending him on his efforts to secure a source of the 'Revigator Solution' that seems to have become popular with Novavida's clientele. It's signed 'Dr Henry Schumacher.'
[23:40] <@Daedalus> Herschel informs the others of what transpired in the chamber.
[23:40] <@Daedalus> Embellishing a few parts.
[23:41] <DiePotato> Artyom climbs aboard and rests in a seat somewhere.
[23:41] <TheRaven> Will starts looking for files, maps, anything potentially important, keeping a special eye out for anything related to the names he's heard from Amelie.
[23:41] <Talonair> Rebecca roots around the boat
01[23:41] <@Nemi> Injured, battered, but with nobody critically wounded or dying, the group and their new boat quickly link back up with Skipper and his crew. There's quite a lot of congratulations and jests from Skipper's crew, and grumbling from Ramirez because nobody told him that they'd be using a different boat. Epilogue with findings to follow momentarily!
[23:41] <Talonair> Woo
01[23:44] <@Nemi> After some vehicle changes, the wacky events therein being the sort of thing the group members will laugh about for years to come, and possibly a brief stop at a bar with colossal amounts of rum, the gang's sent on their way back to Site-19 with hearty approval and slaps on the shoulder. Just not the shoulder that ate a sword stroke. Or got stomped on by an angry Bahlam Knight. Not only did they learn what Novavida's interest was- /Tears/- but they identified an apparent new strain of Tear Drinker that seem opposed to the concept of the Unity so often spouted by the mutates. Seven former Novavida employees were liberated and the group also recovered Erlich, the Novavida commander's, navigation logs pointing to another island up in the Bahamas that seems to be a major destination.
[23:46] <Talonair> Becca promptly gets shitfaced
01[23:46] <@Nemi> All in all, while a minor operation, it's considered a great success despite injuries sustained. Intelligence was gathered and revelations were had.
01[23:46] <@Nemi> ~fin~
03[23:47] * Daedalus is now known as Daedalus|Out
[23:49] <@Balthazaar> The human
[23:49] <Talonair> ?
Session Time: Wed Dec 02 00:00:00 2015
[21:09] <@Daedalus> Herschel is in a sewer! Probably doesn't smell the best in here, but when you're basically a homeless man plucked from a run down city you learn to not care much
[21:10] <@Daedalus> Assuming it's dark, he takes out his lighter and clicks it on.
01[21:10] <@Nemi> Herschel finds himself in.. A well-corroded round pipe, akin to a storm drain. This must be a drain after all. At least it doesn't smell too bad with all the vegetation growing everywhere. It's quite dark, as well, and continues on into much more /thorough/ darkness after ten paces. Good thing he brought a light!
01[21:10] <@Nemi> It goes straight on ahead a ways.
[21:10] <@Daedalus> He follows it down, careful to watch his step.
[21:13] <@Daedalus> He looks for a way up and out.
01[21:13] <@Nemi> After about thirty seconds of careful walking, Herschel will find himself under a drain! It looks like several smaller pipes feed into this larger drainpipe, but only one directly overhead looks large enough to accomodate a human body.. Were he able to knock the actual grate up and out of the way somehow. It looks corroded, but welded on tight.
[21:14] <@Daedalus> Welded? Hmm. Any way someone might push it out of the way?
01[21:15] <@Nemi> If they had a prybar and a lot of strength, maybe. The space beyond is dark- his lighter tells him that.
[21:15] <Talonair> Rebecca hops into the pipe and follows it!
[21:16] <@Daedalus> No prybar… well, there's was no harm in heading down here. He heads back!
[21:16] <@Daedalus> And presumably runs into Rebecca,
[21:16] <@Daedalus> "Ah, hello there!" He cheerfully intones.
01[21:17] <@Nemi> Indeed! Becca and Will bump into Herschel soon enough. He's deep inside the vegetation-encrusted drainpipe, with a drain in the ceiling above him!
[21:17] <DiePotato> Artyom drops down into the pipe as well!
[21:17] <Talonair> "What did you find?"
[21:17] <@Daedalus> "While you all were having fun at the shooting gallery? Perhaps a way in. Drain pipe leads up, but is blocked by grate. "
[21:18] <MarissaBee> Ethel enters the pipes!
01[21:18] <@Nemi> Ethel finds herself with the rest of the gang in a cramped corroded metal drainpipe! It's dark and dingy and smells of rotten vegetation and is generally depressing to be in.
[21:18] <Talonair> Rebecca looks up and digs her crowbar out. "Someone help me with this."
[21:18] <DiePotato> "We were saving those women." Artyom heads forwards. "And grate? Sealed tight?"
[21:18] <@Daedalus> Herschel, however, remains cheerful in spite of the dinginess.
[21:19] <@Daedalus> "A plybar and some strength will remove it."
[21:19] <MarissaBee> Ethel's currently dressed in the uniform of the people they were just fighting. She snarls at the smell…
[21:19] <DiePotato> Artyom lets Will the massive man do the honors.
01[21:19] <@Nemi> Becca- it's corroded enough, someone with sufficient strength and the prybar would be able to rip that right open. Hooray!
[21:19] <DiePotato> Artyom still wonders why taking that poor girl's uniform was a good idea. He glances back shakes his head, and looks back forwards.
[21:20] <TheRaven> Will assists!
[21:20] <Talonair> 4df+4 STRONK!
[21:20] <Glacon> Talonair: STRONK!: 2 (4df+4=4-, 0, 4-, 0)
[21:20] <DiePotato> He also gets out his flashlight so there's more then just a lighter.
[21:20] <Talonair> Fok
01[21:20] <@Nemi> Ethel: The uniform is surprisingly cool and comfy. Breathable too despite not looking it. Whoever designed this knows what they're doing.
[21:20] <MarissaBee> Ethel likes this quite a lot…
01[21:21] <@Nemi> Becca: It makes a metallic groan, but you make little progress outside of breaking a bar on the grate.
[21:21] <TheRaven> 4df+4 Will uses METAL ARM!
[21:21] <Glacon> TheRaven: Will uses METAL ARM!: 5 (4df+4=3+, 0, 3+, 4-)
[21:21] <Talonair> She grumbles. "Will, he- Oh."
01[21:22] <@Nemi> Will, taking over, is much more successful! With a terrible whining groan, the grate is ripped open! There's a hole just large enough to wriggle through in the roof of the pipe, now! Though it leads into darkness.
[21:22] <@Daedalus> "Perhaps we did not need the bar! Heh." Herschel heads up.
[21:22] <@Daedalus> With his lighter in tow.
[21:22] <MarissaBee> Ethel approaches Will and Becca. She'll just follow their need until she needs to get to her real job.
[21:22] <Talonair> Rebecca heads up after Herschel
[21:22] <DiePotato> Artyom shines the light up so peeps can see what they're doing.
[21:24] <TheRaven> Will heads up, grinning a bit at the grate mangling.
[21:24] <@Daedalus> Herschel quietly heads up. Assuming there's no ladder, he pushes himself up using his feet and back as leverage.
01[21:25] <@Nemi> It's an easy enough climb! With the advantage of Herschel's lighter- and Artyom's flashlight- they all can quickly figure out that they're in some kind of generator room. It's completely disused and empty, however: The equipment's been ripped out long ago, leaving just stains in the concrete. It's dark, it's dank, it's run-down and abandoned. There is, however, a door.
[21:25] <Talonair> Rebecca creeps towards the door
[21:25] <@Daedalus> Herschel looks around the room with his lighter, making sure it's clear before heading towards the door.
[21:25] <@Daedalus> Can he peer through the lock?
[21:25] <@Daedalus> keyhole*
[21:25] <@Daedalus> If there is one
[21:26] <MarissaBee> Ethel just follows everyone. She might keep this outfit…
01[21:26] <@Nemi> There's no keyhole, actually. The door itself's one of those metal doors that exists primarily just to ensure that people don't accidentally blunder in, rather than one that's carefully kept secure. There's some conduits and apertures in the walls through which wire must have run, once. Seems all clear.
[21:26] <DiePotato> Artyom keeps his light forwards and keeps a hand on his Makarov. Better then his rifle.
[21:27] <MarissaBee> "It's a bit bland in here…" She speaks quietly.
[21:27] <@Daedalus> Herschel puts his ear to the door.
01[21:27] <@Nemi> There's some lovely mildew and mold on the walls, and signs of rusty stains, and the like. Herschel, Per.
[21:27] <@Daedalus> 4df+3 People hearing without listening
[21:27] <Glacon> Daedalus: People hearing without listening: 1 (4df+3=4-, 0, 4-, 0)
01[21:28] <@Nemi> The door sings to you, but alas, you cannot understand its aria.
01[21:28] <@Nemi> Perhaps this is a door that simply begs opening.
[21:28] <@Daedalus> Herschel opens it a crack!
[21:28] <MarissaBee> 4df+4 Ethel looks around the room, remembering something about graffiti.
[21:28] <Glacon> MarissaBee: Ethel looks around the room, remembering something about graffiti.: 4 (4df+4=4-, 4-, 3+, 3+)
[21:29] <DiePotato> Artyom keeps stands to the right of Herschel waiting for him to open it. He's shored up against it just in case.
01[21:29] <@Nemi> The door is stuck from the corrosion of a decade's neglect in a humid environment! You might need that prybar again..
[21:29] <@Daedalus> "Ach! William, give me your arm."
[21:29] <Talonair> Rebecca offers it to Will
01[21:29] <@Nemi> Ethel: This room looks entirely disused. No graffiti except for a scrawled in 'Kilroy was Here.'
01[21:29] <@Nemi> While overused, the graffiti doesn't give you a headache.
[21:30] <MarissaBee> "… Kil- /what/?"
[21:30] <TheRaven> 4df+4 door-opening
[21:30] <Glacon> TheRaven: door-opening: 5 (4df+4=0, 4-, 3+, 3+)
[21:31] <DiePotato> Artyom looks at Ethel and then what she's looking at shining his light. He blinks at it, shrugs and goes back to the door. Didn't hurt his brain so they're fine.
01[21:33] <@Nemi> The door opens with a horrendous groan before one of the hinges actually /breaks/. But.. The group now has a corridor open to them. More pointedly, however, they're aware of that sounds like a soft, rhythmic thumping sound coming from down one side of the corridor, like the beating of a heart. And in the other direction, muffled conversation in Spanish. "Lo que en Xibalbá era eso?" "Hubo disparos. Erlich ha muerto. Esperar huéspedes."
[21:33] <TheRaven> "That doesn't sound good. Get ready."
[21:33] <MarissaBee> Ethel flinches at the groan. She heads over.
[21:34] <@Daedalus> Herschel heads into the corridor.
[21:34] <@Daedalus> Redact
[21:34] <DiePotato> Artyom frowns severely. That does not sound good at all.
[21:34] <@Daedalus> He peeks around the corner.
[21:34] <@Daedalus> Both ways
[21:34] <@Daedalus> Sneakily
[21:34] <Talonair> Rebecca draws Uzis
[21:34] <DiePotato> He holsters his pistol and pulls his rifle around. While unwieldy the caliber is very important.
[21:35] <DiePotato> Arty looks at Becca and points to her revolver.
[21:35] <MarissaBee> Ethel pulls up her SMG, and heads over to the door.
[21:35] <Talonair> She blonks at him, before holstering them and drawing it
01[21:37] <@Nemi> [PAUSE]
01[21:39] <@Nemi> Peering down the corridor.. The gang will spy two figures! Their skin is chalk-pale though their features are a sort of androgynous Latin native. More notable is that over their too-thick coats and blue jeans they're wearing carefully-assembled metal armour, and that they're /covered/ in intricately-applied paint, over their armour, over their clothes, over their skin. And their eyes have dark stains around them. One of them is carrying a pump-action shotgun, with a.. That looks much like a sawtoothed macahuitl assembled out of welded metal and painted colours of jade and crimson. The other just has another saw-sword. They look completely unsurprised to see the group. "Nueva presa viene a los jaguares! Qué extraño, hermano!" Says the swordsman.
01[21:40] <@Nemi> Also notable— both are /quite/ tall. Artistic ideal tall, which puts them at about 6'6" apiece while leaving them slender enough to be graceful were it not the scrapwork armour.
01[21:41] <@Nemi> [COMBAT BEGINS. PLAYER TURN: Two Bahlam Knights, one with shotgun and sword, other with sword, ~25' away down 10' wide corridor.]
[21:41] <Talonair> "…. Hi."
[21:41] <MarissaBee> These are the ones we can kill?
[21:41] <Talonair> 4df+9 She quick fires at the shotgun-wielding one
[21:41] <Glacon> Talonair: She quick fires at the shotgun-wielding one: 5 (4df+9=4-, 4-, 4-, 4-)
[21:41] <Talonair> FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
[21:41] <MarissaBee> (…_
[21:41] <MarissaBee> )
[21:41] <TheRaven> 4df+8 Will opens up. An MG42 at that range is gonna make a mess.
[21:41] <Glacon> TheRaven: Will opens up. An MG42 at that range is gonna make a mess.: 4 (4df+8=4-, 4-, 4-, 4-)
[21:42] <DiePotato> …
[21:42] <@Daedalus> Herschel decides against shooting them. Mostly because of lack of gun. He instead opts to reach into his back and pull out his firecrackers.
[21:42] <Talonair> WHAT THE FUCK
[21:42] <MarissaBee> Ethel drops to a knee and aims…
[21:42] <@Daedalus> Cna he throw them to distract the sword men, so he can run in the opposite direction.
[21:42] <@Daedalus> ?
[21:42] <DiePotato> Artyom edges way the fuck back, he decides to just wait for them to go into the doorway, which makes an effective killzone.
[21:43] <MarissaBee> 4df+6 RNG+SMGSPEC Ethel takes aim at the swordsman's head and fires. BANG BANG BANG!
[21:43] <Glacon> MarissaBee: RNG+SMGSPEC Ethel takes aim at the swordsman's head and fires. BANG BANG BANG!: 6 (4df+6=4-, 3+, 3+, 4-)
01[21:43] <@Nemi> Herschel: Possibly. It seems likely that they're much more interested in killing you, though.
01[21:43] <@Nemi> Herschel's go, and then pause.
[21:44] <@Daedalus> 4df+4 Light the suckers then run.
[21:44] <Glacon> Daedalus: Light the suckers then run.: 3 (4df+4=4-, 3+, 0, 4-)
01[21:47] <@Nemi> Herschel: Last q. Where is Herschel running? Down the corridor toward the heartbeat sound?
[21:47] <@Daedalus> Yep!
[21:47] <@Daedalus> Away from the people with the weapons.
01[21:47] <@Nemi> [PAUSE]
01[21:49] <@Nemi> So, a few very interesting and extremely unfortunate things happen.
01[21:50] <@Nemi> First off: Rebecca and Will experience the disheartening and horrible sounds of casings getting caught in the chamber. Their guns have jammed. That just makes the swordsman grin. Then Herschel's firecrackers go off at his feet, which makes him laugh.
01[21:51] <@Nemi> Which is approximately the time that Ethel's bullets strike him in the mouth and lower head, jerking his head back in a spray of .. black tarry goo? He stumbles back and steadies himself against the wall, muttering something liquid and pained, and his companion even winces.
01[21:53] <@Nemi> And then his companion raises the shotgun and fires it, at close range, into Will's torso. Although not the target he was planning on, it seems hurting his friend made his aim veer somewhat. Will should be very glad for his vest, because the blast still does 2 Phealth damage and knocks him down. That's probably a bruised liver and kidney. That's going to hurt and bad, and some of the..
01[21:53] <@Nemi> …
01[21:53] <@Nemi> That was rock salt. That's just unnecessary. Mdef, Will.
01[21:54] <@Nemi> Artyom's removed himself from the hallway. This is good. Because the swordsman comes roaring in, wielding that modernized macahuitl with skill and brute force that belies his slender form, hacking hard into Rebecca's shoulder for 1.5 Phealth. He's apparently blindly trying to reach Ethel and Rebecca happened to be in the way.
01[21:56] <@Nemi> Herschel, however, runs down the corridor. The heartbeat gets louder as he goes and passes by metal doors and concrete. Graffiti- white and red paint, primarily, with jade accents- appears with great frequency, forming strange geometric designs and, in particular, a faces-and-eyes-and-hands motif. He's stopped by another very large door and the additional Bahlam- armed much like his brethren, but with a large mace apparently made out of lashed-together gears and a piece of rebar wrapped in tape. He- or she, maybe?- looks at Herschel in wry amusement. "Do you want a bad time?"
[21:56] <TheRaven> 4df+4
[21:56] <Glacon> TheRaven: 1 (4df+4=4-, 4-, 4-, 0)
01[21:57] <@Nemi> Will- /jesus/ that hurt. The pain is /immense/- bad enough you lost 2 Mdef from it all.
01[21:57] <@Nemi> [ PLAYER TURN ]
[21:57] <MarissaBee> Ethel watches as her friend is hacked at with a blade… This pisses her off…
[21:57] <Talonair> Rebecca cries out in pain
[21:57] <@Daedalus> Herschel stops in his tracks, "Ach, hello." He stops, "Ah, er… you are very large."
[21:57] <Talonair> Is there a gap in the armour at their neck?
[21:58] <MarissaBee> 4df+3 MDEF Ethel needs to not freak out so she can do the shooty thing…
[21:58] <Glacon> MarissaBee: MDEF Ethel needs to not freak out so she can do the shooty thing…: 2 (4df+3=0, 0, 4-, 0)
01[21:58] <@Nemi> There is! Usually covered by a shirt-collar or scarf or similar, but the armour is not fully covering.

[21:59] <Glacon> Talonair: Becca sinks her teeth into their neck: 7 (4df+7=4-, 4-, 3+, 3+)
[21:59] <DiePotato> Does Artyom have a clear shot if he repositions to a better angle on sword-guy?
01[21:59] <@Nemi> Artyom does! Especially when Becca.. Takes a bite out of crime.
[21:59] <@Daedalus> "You are here, guarding this door, yes?" He asks, looking around at his options.
[21:59] <MarissaBee> NOPE. Ethel freaks, and charges the one that shot Will…
[22:00] <MarissaBee> 4df+6 MEL+AB Ethel linetackles the shotgunner!

[22:00] <DiePotato> 4df+9 (RNG+OSOSOL) Artyom repositions, luckily the guy hasn't seen him until just as he fires. The Kalash he totes rings out loud and true in the chaos. Fuck that thing is loud. He fires at SWORDSMAN
[22:00] <Glacon> DiePotato: (RNG+OSOSOL) Artyom repositions, luckily the guy hasn't seen him until just as he fires. The Kalash he totes rings out loud and true in the chaos. Fuck that thing is loud. He fires at SWORDSMAN: 7 (4df+9=0, 4-, 0, 4-)
[22:02] <@Daedalus> "Do you see any way that we might talk about this?"

01[22:04] <@Nemi> … Becca is hit and tak— wait no. She avoided it. Lucky! Because if that connected she'd be looking at 2.5.
[22:05] <Talonair> Becca's a fragile speedster. The neckbiting still happens though
01[22:05] <@Nemi> Will, to contrast, is still pancaked by the blast, and it hurts like a /mother/, but he suffers no real injury except perhaps to his pride. No Mhealth damage due to not taking actual health damage.
01[22:06] <@Nemi> NOW. Will's action?
[22:06] <TheRaven> Hm…MG's jammed, how far away are the guys?
01[22:07] <@Nemi> Swordsman is right up in everybody's grill. He moved /fast/. Shotgunner seems fine where he is at 25'.
[22:09] <TheRaven> Will drops the MG and draws his knife, going to take down swordsman.
[22:09] <@Daedalus> Herschel hangs out with the one guarding the door.
[22:09] <TheRaven> 4df+7 stabby stabby
[22:09] <Glacon> TheRaven: stabby stabby: 6 (4df+7=0, 0, 0, 4-)
01[22:09] <@Nemi> [PAUSE]
01[22:11] <@Nemi> Herschel is having a lovely chat with the doorguard, painted and garbed in fascinating fashion. He smiles vaguely, looking past Herschel. "There's a few ways this can play out. Your friends kill a few of us and we slaughter you to deliver you unto Xibalba, in the name of our Lady." His voice is oddly melodic, almost like a sing-song mezzo-soprano tinged by a Panamanian accent. "Or you give up and come in peace, and we come to an understanding. Or, somehow, you get past me, and there is a reckoning. What'll it be?"
01[22:11] <@Nemi> Back in the melee…
01[22:13] <@Nemi> There's some very odd things happening right now. For one, Artyom is shooting a tall, slender figure in scrapwork armour covered in ritual paint and wielding a macahuitl who has already taken a few rounds to the mouth from Ethel's SMG. The impacts punch into his armour to little apparent effect, but it does throw him off-balance enough for Will to slash at him with his knife- drawing black blood- and more pertinently for Rebecca to swoop in and plant her teeth onto his neck.
[22:14] <Roosevelt> Herschel considers this, "What is behind that door?"
01[22:15] <@Nemi> Which is where the /real/ fun begins. Rebecca gets a mouthful of.. It's not blood. It's too thick. It's too sweet. And with it comes a rush- something sweeping through her mind, images of people in an idyllic commune under the jungle canopy, Bahlam knights standing proudly in their paint and armour, and a pale, blonde-haired, frail girl offering a hand with a smile. MDef, Becca.
[22:15] <Talonair> 4df+4 MIND STRONK
[22:15] <Glacon> Talonair: MIND STRONK: 7 (4df+4=3+, 3+, 0, 3+)
01[22:16] <@Nemi> Ethel has a slightly worse time of things, as one may expect from a very small young woman attempting to tackle a 6'6" superhuman. Agi, Ethel.
01[22:16] <@Nemi> Becca is sent stumbling back, the visions fading as rapidly and suddenly as they came. She feels a little emptiness and longing eating at the back of her skull, but soon that fades too. The swordsman, however.. He's been shot up, slashed, stabbed and bitten, and he's turning his attention onto Will.
01[22:16] <@Nemi> Agi, Will.
[22:17] <Talonair> She spits it out and shakes her head. "What.."
[22:17] <MarissaBee> 4df+3 agility.

[22:20] <Glacon> TheRaven: Will stronk: 5 (4df+6=3+, 4-, 4-, 0)
01[22:21] <@Nemi> Now, there's a lot of possible goods-and-bads coming from charging at a superhuman noble warrior. Ethel discovers that said bad can include said warrior snagging her out of her charge with his pump arm, holding her aloft, giving her a look of fascination- maybe admiration?-.. and then spiking her into the floor like a football. But she's made of tougher stuff. Though slammed prone, she takes only .5 phealth.
01[22:23] <@Nemi> Will, on the other hand, discovers why engaging said superhuman monster knight in close combat is a sure route to having a bad day. The warrior combo attacks him, pushing off the wall to deliver a gut-strike with his sword, following through into a knee to the abdomen and finally a forceful elbow slam- with a metal-plated elbow- to the top of the head. Will should be very glad indeed for both his vest and for eating his Wheaties, because while he's sent staggering into the opposite wall with a crunch, Will only takes 1.5 phealth.
01[22:24] <@Nemi> Oh, and then Artyom shoots the swordsman in the head again, and he drops like a heavily armoured potato sack.
[22:24] <TheRaven> "Nnngh…"
01[22:25] <@Nemi> The door sentinel before Herschel still seems amused. "The truth of things, if you would accept it." He pauses at the sound of Kalash fire. ".. Another brother joins our Lady. I'm impressed."

[22:25] <Talonair> OH COME ON
[22:25] <MarissaBee> Ethel immediately takes advantage of the mistake he made by putting her on the ground…
[22:26] <TheRaven> Assuming he's recovered enough to move, Will picks up the MG42 and clears it, cursing on German surplus ammo the entire time. This would probably count as his action for the turn, yes?
[22:26] <MarissaBee> 4df+6 MEL+AB Instead of getting up, Ethel draws her knife and attempts to plunge it into his shin. Just to be a cruel, heartless bitch.
[22:26] <Glacon> MarissaBee: MEL+AB Instead of getting up, Ethel draws her knife and attempts to plunge it into his shin. Just to be a cruel, heartless bitch.: 6 (4df+6=4-, 4-, 3+, 3+)
[22:26] <DiePotato> Artyom repositions once again, sprinting into the corridor, to get a shot at the guy.
[22:28] <DiePotato> 4df+7 (RNG+OSOSOL) Artyom's seen this time around. He fires at the Shotfun!Bro after getting into a spot where Becca and Will aren't in the way.

01[22:28] <@Nemi> REFRESHER: Ethel is UNDER shotgunner. Will, Rebecca, and Artyom are roughly in the same location just outside the door to the generator room, 25' away from Shotgunner.
01[22:28] <@Nemi> The 10' wide corridor ensures there's plenty room to make a clear firing line.
01[22:30] <@Nemi> Herschel is down the hallway opposite from the actual melee, standing in the shadow of another Bahlam.
01[22:30] <@Nemi> As Herschel is primarily doing dialogue, we shall continue. [PAUSE, COMBAT TEAM]
[22:30] <@Daedalus> Herschel looks to the being, squinting, "Hmm… I will not fight you. I am curious to see what this truth is."
01[22:31] <@Nemi> #homeimprovement, Herschel.
01[22:33] <@Nemi> The reason for all that heavy armour becomes quite apparent when one considers the raw amount of firepower Psi-7 is bringing to bear on this one Bahlam knight. He staggers back from the combined hail of .45 rounds and 7.62s from Rebecca and Artyom, and while they pang into and often punch into his armour, the amount of blood is significantly less than one would anticipate. Ethel drives her knife into his lower leg, where his armour doesn't cover, and gets a grunt and near trip in reply. But the Knight is still standing, he racks his shotgun quick to eject the spent shell, levels it one-handed and…
01[22:34] <@Nemi> .. Apparently finds Artyom the most threatening target. He shifts a step to stomp Ethel under his foot whilst firing a shotgun one-handed, his other hand going to the saw-sword hanging at his side.
01[22:34] <@Nemi> Artyom, Agility.

01[22:39] <@Nemi> Ethel: Also agility (or strength!) to avoid getting stomped!
[22:39] <MarissaBee> 4df+5 STR+AB Yes, my friend, you get to deal with one more full turn of Ethel in berserk. She goes to grab his foot.
[22:39] <Glacon> MarissaBee: STR+AB Yes, my friend, you get to deal with one more full turn of Ethel in berserk. She goes to grab his foot.: 5 (4df+5=0, 0, 4-, 3+)
01[22:41] <@Nemi> Ethel: These things are.. Very strong indeed. While your strength is certainly impressive for your size, you're at a disadvantage. Pdef.
[22:41] <MarissaBee> 4df+4 PDEF Fuck your boot.
[22:41] <Glacon> MarissaBee: PDEF Fuck your boot.: 4 (4df+4=3+, 4-, 0, 0)
01[22:42] <@Nemi> Artyom- you're aware of the shotgun barrel being leveled upon you, the boom, and then a whole lot of tinnitus and a dull pain in your chest. And that you're on your back, on concrete, and your head hurts. Thank goodness for vests, because you only took 1 Phealth damage.
01[22:44] <@Nemi> Ethel- The crunch you hear is a floating rib snapping, and a few other ribs cracking. It hurts less than it probably should, and fury probably dulled the blow regardless, but you're still taking 1.5 Phealth damage. And you're pinned under the Knight's boot despite your efforts. Charging the towering superhuman mystic warrior may have been an error, even if it worked for Becca.
01[22:44] <@Nemi> Will and Becca: … Yeah Arty just took a shotgun blast to the chest and the Bahlam Knight just stomped Ethel. She seems okay enough, though!
01[22:44] <@Nemi> [PLAYER TURN]
[22:45] <Talonair> She holsters her uzis whilst running forwards, and draws her 870, cocking slug rounds into the chamber. She's got a sawn-off when she needs buckshot

[22:45] <DiePotato> Artyom coughs a few times and he pushes himself to his feet.

01[22:46] <@Nemi> Oh crap. Yes. Will did clear his MG like a professional!
01[22:46] <@Nemi> Artyom has an action, if he so wishes!
[22:47] <DiePotato> Artyom spends his turn picking himself up and gaining more ear ringing from the SHOTGUN and MG being fired.
01[22:48] <@Nemi> Wise! He centres himself for the coming storm.
01[22:48] <@Nemi> [PAUSE]
01[22:51] <@Nemi> Artyom's ears are ringing, but he's… He's hurt, definitely, but it's nowhere near as bad as it would have been had he been in just a jacket. His allies continue their fusillade- and as it happens, concentrated automatic fire from a machine gun and two large-calibur sub machine guns at close range, with your target unable to adequately defend itself due to the teeth in its ankle, tends to do nasty things to people. Such as punch through the gaps in their armour, shearing off chunks of the warrior's body in bloody arcs and leaving him to totter backwards and collapse heavily to the ground in a splatter of black blood. Ethel, however, having taken a good bite, is assailed by strange visions much like Becca's own.. Mdef, Ethel.
[22:51] <MarissaBee> 4df+3 MDEF She's already without rationality for the time-being, but okee.
[22:51] <Glacon> MarissaBee: MDEF She's already without rationality for the time-being, but okee.: 3 (4df+3=3+, 4-, 3+, 4-)
01[22:56] <@Nemi> Ethel— you're no longer here, in the dingy halls of rotting concrete. You're at a farm carved out of the jungle with your own two hands, the others- you don't know them, but you know them and know they love you as you love them- standing proudly and marveling at what you've accomplished. A plane soars overhead, and you watch it go, and you run to the invoker. They must be warned. The Bahlams should stand down. There's a chance..
01[22:56] <@Nemi> Everyone else: Ethel, black ooze running down her lips, looks dreamily to the ceiling. It's quiet now, but for a soft sound of applause somewhere behind you. In the direction of the heartbeat.
01[22:56] <@Nemi> Combat over.
[22:57] <Talonair> Rebecca turns around
[22:57] <TheRaven> "Fuck, somebody get her up." Will's hearing is too dicked to hear the clapping.
[22:58] <DiePotato> "Slap her." Artyom calls a bit loudly. Ears hurting.
01[22:58] <@Nemi> Another Bahlam knight stands at the end of the corridor, in front of a large door covered with strange symbols of eyes and hands and marching figures in strange colours. His scrapwork mace rests easily beside him— and the reason it's audible over the tinnitus and deafness is apparent, as he has great gauntlets of lashed-together scrap, studded with bolts in the knuckles.
[22:58] <DiePotato> He turns, dazed a bit by the gunfire still and frowns.
[22:59] <TheRaven> "Oh who's this asshole…"
[23:00] <Talonair> "Well he's not attacking us.."
[23:01] <DiePotato> Arty leans over and picks up his Kalash holding it by the stock limply.
[23:05] <MarissaBee> Ethel continues to drool black stuff.
01[23:06] <@Nemi> 'This asshole' makes no move of aggression, but he's ceased clapping. The Bahlam seems better-garbed than his kin, his paints more vivid and regular, less sloppily applied. Ethel will wake quickly on her own since nobody helped her. Instead, the Bahlam just watches.
[23:06] <Talonair> Rebecca slowly walks over
[23:07] <DiePotato> Arty stays where he is, holding his head with one hand and holding his rifle the wrong way with the other hand.
[23:11] <TheRaven> "Wait a sec…weren't there more of us?"
[23:11] <Talonair> "What is this?"
[23:12] <MarissaBee> Ethel gets up.
01[23:12] <@Nemi> The Bahlam watches Rebecca, smiling faintly. "They were violent fools but they will live on in my Lady's song. Why have you come here? You seek the Lady's gift?" He doesn't answer Will. "That is all the others ever came for."
[23:12] <Talonair> "… What is this gift?"
[23:12] <DiePotato> "Not Christmas yet, no thank you."
[23:12] <TheRaven> "We're more interested in your Novavida friends."
01[23:13] <@Nemi> He half-shuts his eyes. "My Lady weeps for this world, and her Hearts bleed for its people. They wished to use Her Tears for greed. It serves Her purpose, regardless."
01[23:14] <@Nemi> ".. You fought well. You freed many from their shackles, and you've demonstrated your valor."
[23:14] <MarissaBee> Ethel doesn't like this… It sounds just like so many things from her childhood.
[23:15] <Talonair> "…" Becca looks at Arty
[23:15] <DiePotato> "Please do not say this is where you must end us."
[23:15] <DiePotato> "Head hurts."
[23:15] <DiePotato> "Too much gunfire for close space."
01[23:16] <@Nemi> "If the Justicar wished to end you, you would be dead where you stand." His voice gains an eerie resonance to its otherwise musical mezzo-soprano at that utterance.
01[23:17] <@Nemi> ".. No. She's curious. That's why she bid me let your friend enter."
[23:17] <DiePotato> "Ragged man is…"
[23:17] <DiePotato> Artyom sighs and thinks of course.
[23:17] <MarissaBee> Ethel wipes her mouth and looks at him… Is he wearing the same outfit as the people outside that she looted?
[23:18] <DiePotato> "We will have him back in one piece, da?"
[23:18] <TheRaven> "Friend…oh for fuck sakes, somebody put a leash on him or something when we find him."
01[23:19] <@Nemi> The Bahlam is not dressed as a Novavida soldier, no. He's actually in blue jeans and a wool jacket, to which his scrap armour- masterfully assembled as it might be- is fastened. And then the ritual paint and the like. Like the other two, he's 6'6", lithe, and oddly feminine looking.
[23:20] <MarissaBee> "Hm…"
[23:20] <Talonair> "So… What now?"
[23:20] <DiePotato> "We are not leaving without Herschel, so." Artyom slowly lowers himself to the floor, and to a sit, making pained grunts on the way down.
01[23:21] <@Nemi> The Bahlam shrugs his shoulders to the melodic clink of metal. "We have no need to fight. The Bahlam are protectors."
[23:21] <Talonair> "May we go in?"
[23:21] <DiePotato> "You all can go looking down there, I will wait for him."
[23:21] <DiePotato> He waves down the opposite hall where Shottie and Swordie were
01[23:23] <@Nemi> A couple of people come down from the corridor from whence the two dead Knights came. They look.. Really like anyone else, just local Panamanians. A little pale, but nothing too odd otherwise. They quietly start removing the bodies.
[23:23] <Talonair> Rebecca walks forwards then
01[23:23] <@Nemi> The Bahlam considers a moment, and shrugs. "As you wish. Don't do anything stupid." He steps aside and pushes the door open. And to #homeimprovement!
[23:23] <MarissaBee> Ethel decides to shake off her anger, and just do whatever other people are doing.
[23:24] <DiePotato> Artyom blinks, honestly a bit surprised she was allowed in. He chooses to keep sitting where he is though, he's hurting.
[23:24] <TheRaven> "Look, like I said, we're interested in Novavida. Any of them around here, or their files or whatever?"
01[23:26] <@Nemi> The Bahlam shrugs. "We don't care about Novavida. They want my Lady's Tears, they get it. We know full well they want to sell it, but it matters not to us if the Gift is spread around."
01[23:26] <@Nemi> ".. You may find something in their boat."
03[23:26] * WetBeard is now known as SleepBeard
[23:26] <DiePotato> Artyom nods. "Spasibo."
[23:29] <TheRaven> "Let's check that out, unless you want to stay here and wait for the others."
01[23:30] <@Nemi> ".. Also, regrettably," the Bahlam continues. ".. I should let you know that I'm of the Painted Ones, and your friends are going to do something stupid, and then I'm going to have to kill all of you, so. Consider this a head start. There's five more of us, then the initiates, so you might want to use the drain and run."
01[23:30] <@Nemi> "You know. Figured I'd just let you know."
[23:30] <TheRaven> "…"
[23:31] <DiePotato> "…So you are expecting us to leave our friends to die?"
01[23:31] <@Nemi> "Assuming they do what I'm afraid they're going to? Yes."
01[23:31] <@Nemi> The Bahlam hums a pleasant tune and rocks on his heels.
[23:31] <DiePotato> Artyom pushes himself back up to his feet. "I trust my friends."
01[23:34] <@Nemi> The Bahlam freezes a moment. ".. No. Actually. Use the drain anyway, but I think we're good." He pushes the door open behind him.
[23:35] <TheRaven> Will grins a bit at that and makes for the boat. The Novavida one, that is
[23:36] <DiePotato> Artyom picks his rifle back up and slowly starts making his way for the drain.
01[23:37] <@Nemi> Back to #homeimprovement.
