Valeria Terrazas

Player: TheSpookanist

Position: Anti-Biological Combat Specialist

Demeanor: Energetic, but not necessarily happy; confrontational if pissed off enough to draw her notice.

Nature: Valeria is a pragmatic scientist capable of making hard decisions, but that doesn't mean she's incapable of empathy. Though she can at first seem rather quick to take to a fight, she calms down around people she's familiar with and can become fast friends quickly. She's often the one in a social circle to care for others and try to keep their spirits high, and viciously defends those who've earned her trust.

Description: Valeria is a short, well-built woman with tanned skin, black hair, and brown eyes. Despite being 5'4", she's built up quite a bit of muscle and can (and will) challenge those above her to an arm wrestling match. She has a roughly diamond-shaped face that lends itself better to scowls than smiles, with eyes that never lose their intensity. Her hair is typically worn in a short single braid with a red hair tie at its base.

  • Total Decontamination: 4. After her previous performance with nonconventional ammunition in the early containment of several biohazardous SCPs, Valeria has gained some leeway for their general use. She carries on her person magazines filled with both explosive 12-gauge shotgun shells as well as experimental white phosphorus shells. She can't use either while a teammate is within melee range of the target. Valeria also receives a +2 to her rolls with heavy shotguns.
    • Valeria carries five turns' worth of explosive shells. They inflict 10d2 damage to a target; results of 1 are discarded, and each result of 2 deals 2 damage and an additional d2 is rolled until no 2s are rolled.
    • Though Valeria carries plenty of white phosphorus shells, she can only use them every other round indoors and every three of fours rounds outdoors to prevent dangerous fume buildups. When struck, the target is coated with burning phosphorus for the difference between Valeria's Ranged roll and the target's Acrobatics roll and immediately takes 1d3 damage. They take 1d3 damage for each round they're coated, but can spend a turn trying to remove the coating; each turn spent this way reduces the duration by two rounds. Targets immune to both heat and acid take no damage.
      • Targets with a self-preservation instinct must make a Determination roll against Valeria's Ranged roll each round they're coated. If they fail, they automatically spend their turn removing the coating.
  • Plague Mind: 3. Valeria has studied plenty of pathology, and while she's not the best in her field at its medical applications she absolutely knows how to handle disease from a big picture perspective. She receives a +3 on rolls to identify, research, or contain a disease.
  • Goliath's Bane: 1. Though Valeria is by no means a bad fighter, she's still had to learn how to compensate for her small stature. She gains a +1 on Melee against humanoid targets larger than herself.

Personal History:

Born in 1952 in northern California, Valeria faced her fair share of adversities growing up; being both Mexican and a woman in a time and place of prejudice against both, she was told a career in any science was an unrealistic goal at best. Rather than allow others to stop her, she elected to plow through every obstacle between her and that goal out of sheer deterministic spite. First through the bullies in her schools with anything that would get her a punishment short of a permanent mark, through mountains of books with no better teacher than herself to challenge her to think and learn, then through university admissions offices by a volume of ink and paper and intellect. Finally, after fighting at every turn, she emerged… without a diploma. During this exhaustive process, however, she produced a number of extraordinarily interesting research results that eventually passed through the hands of a Foundation scientist who was thoroughly impressed with the work.

At first, the Foundation did not employ her as such, but instead approached her and offered her payment in exchange for consultation on how "hypothetical" epidemic scenarios would likely play out in fiction. When it became clear that Valeria was a natural in her field, she was instead offered a more permanent position - she could train to make a difference and study, both in texts and in the field, far more than any university could teach her. She accepted without hesitation. After years of work making a name for herself wherever she could, she was eventually attached to a number of mobile task forces to aid in the containment of biohazardous SCPs. After nearly a decade of work under the Foundation, received an assignment to Delta-4.
