Demeanor: Friendly, if somewhat overly so. Sympathetic towards others most of the time, and fairly willing to help out. Tries to make jokes that are usually awful either in subject matter or structure

Nature: To Stuart, nothing is more important than the truth, but in the same measure nothing is more important than keeping the truth safe. He feels obligated to help out when he can, but can talk himself out of it from time to time. He's willing to sacrifice himself if more people will live as a result

Description: Stuart is 5'7", with a large-ish build and pale skin. He looks like you'd expect a PD to look, with alert eyes, stubble, and a small scar or two. Typically he dresses in an overcoat and suit for missions, but on site he wears more casual, if still slightly formal clothes. He owns and wears a fedora as well, but not indoors.

  • How do you… : 3. Stuart's learned a lot over his years of being a PI, and that pays off when you're trying to hide a machine gun in a suitcase or when you're trying to pick a lock. +3 to ACD for criminal knowledge.
  • Shooting From the Hip(flask): 3. Sometimes you get a little surprised when you're investigating, and sometimes the people surprising you aren't that happy to see you. In such cases, a quick shot can give you an advantage. Stuart can take a free shot on any enemies that break stealth within 5 meters of him, and takes a +1 bonus to ranged on the first of those shots.
  • Perceptive Detective: 3. In his field of work, Stuart has had to train himself to notice things out of the ordinary. It's not a quick process by any means, but after spending 15 minutes in the same area, he has a +3 bonus to perception rolls in that specific area.
  • (ANOMALY) Can't Play Dead 3. Stuart is, currently unknowingly, anomalous. This anomaly will not manifest until he dies, at which point he will resurrect himself. From each death, he comes back alive, but with obvious injury that will only worsen as he continues to die. Should he be fully destroyed, he can seek temporary shelter in a relatively fresh corpse, which will eventually regenerate as he inhabits it. He will also bring a random anomalous power with him, that will change on every death.
    • (ANOMALOUS POWER) Picture This: Stu can create holographic images within a 30 foot radius of himself, as long as he can see where it is. The projection is merely a still image, and cannot be interacted with in any way. To use them, he rolls persuasion against the enemy's mdef, with a successful roll convincing them if they don't physically interact with the illusion
  • (FLAW) Dying's Not Much of Living: Stuart's resurrections are imperfect. Whenever he returns from the dead, he must take two of the debuffs associated with reaching 0 health, and they are not removed on their own after three months. These cannot be restored without research and a crafting project, barring two exceptions. The first is that, on inhabiting a new corpse, he can get rid of two of these debuffs. Alternatively, with the consent of another character, he can leech one of those points of health away from them, until he is killed or otherwise relinquishes it.

Personal History:

Stuart was born to Scottish immigrants who had recently moved to New York, specifically Long Island, on January 9th, 1925. He grew up poor, but his family eventually prospered by getting into the butcher market. Stuart wasn't eager about the prospect of a career in meat, but accepted it as his fate. However, in 1943, he was inevitably drafted, something that he found embarrassingly relieving, as it meant his father would have to hire someone to take his place. He served in the infantry with little distinction, aside from a brief meeting with a man named Boyd Bennett.

After the war, he returned to find his father in poor health, and their business gone. Stuart pieced together the situation from what he could learn, and found that the business had been forcefully bought off his father by the local criminal gangs, and then again sold just for the land. He was infuriated by this, his father dissuaded him from any acts of revenge. After this, Stuart sought work in the local law enforcement, but was turned down after applying. Determined to reestablish some sense of justice in his life, he started a PI firm, specializing in smaller cases before eventually moving to the occasional murder investigation.

He established a good reputation, despite some occasionally dubious methods, and gained the ire of the local police due to how his success reflected on them. In particular, this got to the local police investigator, Boyd Bennett. This blossomed into a full on rivalry, with the two rushing to complete cases, Stuart taking heavy risks in the process. However, none of this compared to his last case.

Stuart was investigating a recent case that involved the robbery of a pawn shop that lead him to a MC&D warehouse for low level assets. He broke in, and found himself in a pitched battle for his life soon after. It ended with his escape, but not without getting dusted in a shipment of the new life extension aid "Immortalitea", as well as taking a few hits. He was only saved by the arrival of the local police, also there in investigation of the robbery.

After the Foundation learned of the incident, they hired him.
