Renaine Hughs

Basic Info:

Player: Klurg

Position: Close Combat Specialist.

Demeanor: Renaine is the type to caution against rushing a situation and waiting for the best time, yet when it comes to action, he's the first one out there, and seemingly quite eager. Despite his age, he seems fairly energetic, hunting and working out daily.

Nature: Renaine is an impatient man who knows his weaknesses. Typically, he'll try to take his own advice and try and take his time with a problem, yet when the problem is there and about to get worse, he'll immediately take action, most likely forgetting his own words. He also believes being frank is the best way to deal with something, so he won't mince words or beat around the bush.

Description: Renaine's of average height, 5'07, with a clean-shaven face. He's well built, not too muscular, but not scrawny either. Has a mostly healed scar on his cheek from getting cut by some briars. Despite being 42 and a soldier, he's got the look and a physique of someone in their early 30s

  • Easier to hit if they're not looking: 2. During both hunting and the war, Renaine knew how to capitalize on an unaware mark. +2 to ranged against unaware opponents
  • My significant sense is tingling: 2. When fighting against enemies that could be potentially in ambush, Renaine's tracking and logic skills helped significantly to avoid ambushes. Uses survival instead of perception with a +2 bonus when detecting ambushes and traps outdoors.
  • Cover? What Cover?: 4. The best place to hit an someone is where their cover fails to protect them, and Renaine knows how to take advantage of it. +2 to ranged when flanking an enemy that's not aware of Renaine's position (flanking counts when Renaine finds an area where the target's cover doesn't protect them and shoots them from there) or shooting an enemy that's not using cover. An extra +2 if the enemy's at close range. (30 feet or less)
  • Proper use of cover: 2. During the Second World War, cover is what kept you alive, and Renaine learned how to maximize its effectiveness. +2 pdef when using cover tall enough to at least crouch behind it.
  • Covering their flanks: 2. It’s hard to flank an enemy if they can see you coming, so you don’t let them see you. +2 sneak when attempting to flank an enemy.

Personal History:

Renaine Hughs was born in 1917 to a regular family in the middle of Nowhere in Bumfuck (Winkelman) Arizona. Renaine's mother died early in his life from health issues, leaving his father to raise him by himself. He was taught to hunt and fend for himself by his father, leading him to become a hunter later in life, as his education was… subpar to say the least. The experience was rougher than most childhoods, but it worked out in the end. It helped him survive the Great Depression, as he didn't have to depend on unstable jobs to get food during this rough time. Once the US joined World War 2, Renaine was one of the first to join the fight, against his father's wishes, as Renaine wanted out of what he considered a 'dead end state'. His experience hunting helped with his aim and avoiding ambushes while fighting and advancing through enemy lines, and he fulfilled a pathfinder role of sorts. He also had a knack for avoiding enemy fire and mines when charging from one trench to another. Renaine fought as infantry in the European front and was one of the soldiers who participated in D-Day. Once the war ended, he was glad to be finished with that grim business but hesitant to return home, as he really didn't have much of a chance of increasing his standard of living by just hunting. Luckily, his superiors had ties to the Foundation and recommended Renaine to them, giving him the break he needed. The Foundation hired Renaine into their American branch, then after some years of basic security and missions, and learning some fairly rough Italian, Renaine was shipped out to the Italian branch to join psi-7.
