Personal History:

Raymond Myers was born in 1925 to Clark and Jennifer Myers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up in a family of six - two parents, an older brother, and two younger siblings, a brother and sister respectively. His father and brother both worked to support the family, so Raymond took it upon himself to act as the protector for his younger siblings - no one dared cross them when Raymond was around.

Once Raymond began his schooling, he discovered three things:

  • Science and math were boring
  • Languages and history were the most interesting things in the world
  • Sports, especially football, were very fun

Holding on to these three truths, Raymond forged his school career around playing football and learning all he could about language. He devoted himself mostly to his studies, focusing them on learning as many languages as he could, or as much about them as possible. When not studying, he was still pursuing football; he made the junior varsity team, and later, the varsity team. He was put in the forward tackle and lineman positions, which helped him gain some athletic ability that never truly left him.

Once Raymond graduated from high school, he mostly dropped football and devoted himself wholeheartedly to his studies. He had to take out various loans in order to afford school, which put his family into considerable debt after his parents died in 1944. During college, he studied for a linguistics degree at Harvard and spent more time learning different ones. Once he graduated college, he was drafted into the Marines in 1947 to serve in the European theater and the Korean war.

During the wars, Raymond proved himself both a talented linguist and a skilled fighter. He led many successful missions that involved close-quarters combat and negotiated various ceasefires and hostage situations successfully. Following his discharge in 1957, he was contacted by the Foundation due to his skillset and was offered a position, which he accepted in 1959.
