Quentin Haywood

Basic Info:

Player: taylor_itkin

Position: Research and Containment Specialist.

Demeanor: Reserved yet friendly.

Nature: Quentin is a man who mostly keeps to himself. He likes socializing, but without his memory, he doesn't want to scare others with his somewhat monotone nature while he finds himself. However, he prefers to not focus on his almost non-existent past and live as the new person he is. He views his amnesia as a sort of "rebirth". As a result, those that engage with him find him charming.

Description: Quentin stands at 5'9". He typically wears a white button down shirt with dark pants and suspenders, accompanied by a tie (the color varies depending on the day). His black hair is cut short and usually styled up cleanly with gel. Occasionally, he may wear a bowler hat. He slumps a bit as he stands, nothing too drastic, though.

Personal History:

Quentin cannot remember the year he was born. He cannot remember much of his own life. When he awoke in Site-77 after the (apparent) accident, he couldn't remember anything.

The ID card on his hip read "Quentin Haywood", and others referred to him as such. It also identified him as a Research and Containment Specialist, and as he tried to think, he found that yes, he possessed the knowledge of such things, as well as the knowledge of the Foundation and the anomalous nature of those it contained. However, no matter how hard he tried, he could not remember himself. He could remember facts, statistics, figures, words and more, but no solid foundation to base his own person on.

A colleague (who Quentin never saw again) escorted him back to his (apparent) dorm room. After what seemed like hours, he managed to find what appeared to be a stack of 8 diaries. Flipping through the pages of the one on the bottom, he discovered them to be written by Quentin Haywood. He assumed they must be his, because, after all, he was (apparently) Quentin Haywood. After several hours of flipping through all 8 diaries, Quentin was able to piece a few things about himself together:

  • A passage dated as 1929 states it is Quentin's 10th birthday.
  • Another dated with the same year tells of Quentin winning a junior science fair.
  • One dated 1931 shows Quentin mourning the recent loss of his grandmother.
  • A passage dated 1933 details the anxiety Quentin feels about starting high school.
  • Another dated with the same year tells of Quentin being severely bullied for being so passionate about his studies.
  • A passage dated 1934 shows Quentin winning another science fair in his Sophomore year of high school.
  • One dated as 1935 is filled with rants of a girl Quentin finds attractive and how they shared a kiss outside of their high school.
  • Another dated with the same year tells an almost identical story of a boy who Quentin finds attractive.
  • Another dated with the same year shows Quentin once again winning the school science fair in Junior year.
  • A passage dated as 1936 once more shows Quentin winning the science fair his Senior year of high school.
  • Another dated the same year details Quentin's excitement at being accepted to Yale for early admission in their science department.
  • Another dated the same year shows Quentin graduating with highest honors from high school. It goes on to say his parents were proud of him, but does not detail them.
  • One dated as 1938 tells of the ease Quentin has at college, breezing through his courses and leaving other students in the dust.
  • One dated as 1939 tells of Quentin being approached by a mysteries "Foundation" to be taken out of school early for a highly secretive job involving his expertise.
  • A passage dated in 1940 is filled with Quentin explaining his new position at the Foundation and how he is a Research and Containment Specialist and that it is the perfect job for him, and staying at Yale would have been a waste of time given his knowledge level.
  • A passage dated in 1942 tells of a new Containment project Quentin's team is working on, one that requires lifting numerous heavy objects (not elaborated on) and moving them far distances (not elaborated on).

Not much else was to be gleaned from the diaries, and Quentin was discouraged for a long while about this. However, as time went by, Quentin realized two things: he possessed the knowledge necessary to continue his job, and he could reinvent himself. He hated the somewhat arrogant tone the Quentin Haywood in the diaries had possessed, feeling he was a braggart. Without the memories of that Quentin, he could become a new, more humble Quentin.

When the Foundation finally did approach him about restoring his memory, he refused, stating that he wished to rebuild himself, but that he could continue his job. Even though the Foundation had doubts, Quentin was able to easily prove that although his memory may have left him, his skill and knowledge had not. The Foundation has (so far) allowed him to stay on staff, regardless of his condition.

Quentin currently continues to rebuild himself, and he hopes to become better than his former person in the process.

Miscellaneous:

Quentin has retrograde amnesia. As a result, he cannot remember his own memories, but all facts and things that he learned are safely stored in his mind.
