Nature: Onni is a quiet young man, content to spend his time alone in nature when not on duty. However, beneath his aloof exterior is a stalwart friend who never fades from helping wherever he can. Those who make it to see this side of him are usually treated to surprisingly tasty baked goods, and a wise-assed quip.

Description: With long, dark hair often pulled back and a scraggly beard, Onni would fit in better at a Rainbow Gathering, but his appearance betrays a keen, analytical mind. At 5’11 and 170 lbs, Onni is no slouch when it comes to physical effort, though he is much better-suited for endurance, particularly at high altitudes. An outdoorsman by trade, this manifests in a toned frame, and a weathered, aged look, despite only being in his early thirties.

  • Äiti Said Never Leave Home Without a Tourniquet: 2: Due his history as a wilderness SAR worker and his past experiences, Onni never heads out without gear to keep with all but the most serious of wounds under control. Onni brings two extra healing dice, which are expended as normal.
  • Sisu: 3: When you’re on the down and out, there’s usually only one solution, and that’s pushing yourself through, no matter how much it hurts. When knocked out, Onni can roll Determination to get back on his feet, though he can only this successfully twice per run.
  • Chew This, but Don’t Swallow: 3: When one spends years in the woods, you tend to learn a little woodland herbalism. Nobody really knows what mix of herbs Onni keeps, but nobody really minds, because it works. Consuming the herbs takes one turn, granting a bonus +3 to either strength or toughness, decreasing by 1 every turn until 0. Usable twice per run.

Personal History:

Born to Finnish immigrants in 1955, Onni was brought up in the Methow Valley of central Washington, working in the local sawmill alongside his family. Despite the hardships of creating a life in a new country, Onni still found time to wander the sprawling wilderness surrounding him, oftentimes disappearing for weeks alongside his sister Aino—an ever-constant adventuring companion.

Tragedy struck in 1976 on an ascent of Mount Rainier, when Onni and Aino fell into a crevasse. Onni survived his fall into the crevasse—his sister didn’t. After a brutally cold night, Onni was forced to leave her behind as he climbed his way out using what gear they had on hand. As a result of the cold, Onni lost several toes to frostbite, though this part of his story is rarely told.

Aino's body was never recovered.

After his experience, Onni became an EMT, joining a search-and-rescue outfit, resolving to help people wherever he could. Onni worked in SAR until 1981, when his SAR group came into contact with anomalous wildlife, leading his group to come into contact with Foundation personnel.

Given the choice of either an amnestic regimen or the chance to join something greater than himself, Onni joined the Foundation. While he may grumble about the lack of trees, or his newly-found hate of regular hours in a medical office, Onni has come to embrace the weird, the anomalous, and the paracausal, finding it as another gateway to an unforgettable adventure.

The Clean Gun: A small pistol-sized tool that looks kind of like a phaser, was cooked up by the biomedical branch and a guy from cognitohazards to use ultraviolet and sonic pulses to disrupt viral and bacterial growth and clean and sterilize surfaces. Can be shone on an open wound to help sterilize it. Will likely slow the spread of anomalous diseases, but may not protect against them entirely.
