███████ Mathias Hilderband, 195█

Player: LadyKatie

Position: Retired Five Star Badass, Psi-7

Demeanor: Mathias is a pretty chill guy. Prefers coffee and newspapers to high octane car chases. Doesn’t really talk about his time in the military unless necessary.

Nature: Mathias feels no need to add any excitement to his life. As far as he’s concerned, any time not spent in something that could get an urn shipped to your family (whether it actually has anybody’s body in it or not) is good time.

Description: Mathias doesn’t have many distinct features. His eyes are green, he still keeps his hair in a crew cut, average height but looks like he works out. He just doesn’t look that special.

Specialties
  • Cultural Literacy: 2 Rank. Matthias spent a lot of time in many different countries. Eventually, one just learns to blend in, or how to be polite in certain cultures (Or a spec on how to not immediately present yourself as a threat. Used for things like knowing which fork to use at a fancy restaurant, where to take your shoes off in a Japanese home, how to greet people of different castes in India [those higher up on the chain care very much])
  • Unassuming: 1 . Matthias looks like anyone really. You probably know five dudes who look just like him. So if he disappears into a crowd, you wouldn’t think too much of it. He’ll find his way back. (SNEAK in a crowd, avoiding being picked out of a lineup)
  • Motivational Speaking: 2 Ah, the good old motivation speech. Sometimes people need words of encouragement, support. Others may need to know their place, and where their place could be if they continue to be a moron. But this is vague enough, so let me make myself perfectly clear (INTIM if he intends to go through with what he says IE "do as I say or I'll tell that cop over there you tried to mug me" will work if he will actually do it, but "Do as I say or I'll chop off your hand" wont' if he doesn't actually intend to do it.)
  • Rangers Lead the Way: 3 Mathias was a model Ranger, and will fall into leadership roles almost on instinct. When on point, Mathias gets a +2 bonus to perception vs ambushes and surprise attacks, and a +3 to normal ranged on the first combat turn

Possessions:

A photo album full of postcards, two jars of coins from around the world, a note from the Dali Lama, A playbill for a production of Tristan and Isodole in Paris, West Point class of 1954 ring (14k gold with a garnet), his last flak jacket, and his cadet hat.

Personal History:

Born in 1932, Mathias Hilderband spent his whole life wanting to get off the family farm in Pennsylvania, where he said “people were born, married, lived, and died within a mile,” and saw education as being the easiest way to achieve that goal. At 18, he was accepted to West Point Military Academy, and joined the long grey line. His time as a cadet was marked with excellence; he absorbed information like a sponge, and was picked up for Army Ranger training. In his time as a Ranger, Mathias did… a lot, some of which is still classified. He'll tell you he was in Paris to learn how to cook, just like Idna Garten. The note from the Dali Lama? That was most certainly written after he left Tibet, and Mathias is sure of it. He collected coins on base, not by actually going everywhere. Except maybe Egypt, and then India. And Vietnam, it's on record that he was there, see? Still, his life of flying around the world, doing things nobody seems to know about but himself took a toll on his personal life. In 1980, his wife divorced him right before his official retirement, taking both of their kids with her. Bored, but unable to go back to his life in the Army, he found a job in the private sector that could make use of his skills.
