Madison Harpur

Player: War_

Position: Doctor-in-training/Field Medic

Demeanor: Mildly reserved, but makes an effort to be outgoing and friendly. Polite, to a degree that borders on paranoia regarding his treatment of people. A tad clumsy, both literally and socially.

Nature: Fairly intelligent in the sense that he’s perpetually sharp-witted, and acutely aware of the benefits of logical fore-planning. However, he is also in possession of a deep-seated, reckless impulsiveness that is at loggerheads with his own rationality - much like his father, if a bit more subdued due to his cautious nature. Extremely self-conscious in regards to his ability in perceiving, and relating to, the emotions of other people.

Description: Put simply, Madison personifies the word ‘friendly’; standing at 5’8” in height and weighing close to 200lbs, he’s a large, strong albeit squishy-looking 23-year-old man with an odd mix of features. While a redhead, his true hair colour falls somewhere between ginger and auburn (think chestnut, almost), and his complexion is notably darker than that of someone of Irish descendancy (although he does possess the freckles). His facial features are quite distinct, with his face being generally squarish albeit a bit more rounded and soft, and his eyes tend to look a bit sunken from fatigue and are tinted with a faint indigo.
He opts to dress simply and casually in whatever’s comfortable - more often than not, jeans and a polo shirt, if his work allows him to get away with such.
He can be seen wearing a hearing aid in each ear at all times.

Specialties
  • Tick-tock: 3. Being a doc destined for the field, Maddy's undoubtedly got to be fast on his feet in the case of critical injury for the sake of his teammates. Being a man who works surprisingly well under pressure, his cool head means that he can treat even the most life-threatening injuries…or, at least stabilise them. +3 [EDU:MED] while trying to stop continuous damage, such as that from inflicted poisons/toxins or heavy bleeding, or stabilising heavy trauma such as limb amputation.
  • Vital Point: 3. Being an avid observer of anatomy (and as deemed necessary by his profession, anatomical fault), Maddy has a keen eye for weak spots in one's defences. While not much of an active combatant himself the skill still has its uses, both for himself in emergencies, as well as being able to pass the information on to his teammates in combat scenarios. +3 [INT:PERC] when observing a person or humanoid for a weakness in its defences that can be exploited through ranged or melee attack, such as ineffective armouring or points of structural weakness that, if harmed, could cause incapacitation (dictated by GM fiat). This will not work for non-humanoid entities.
  • Unstoppable Force Meets An Immovable Object: 2. Maddy's a bit of a big guy, and despite looks is fairly sturdy and not exactly someone who can just be shoved out of the way or held back. +2 [STR:ATH] in scenarios where Maddy is required to either place someone in a non-lethal chokehold, or is attempting to break free from a chokehold himself.
  • Bloodletter Effect: Life's Blood: 3. Due to some…high-risk experiment he performed on himself, Maddy now has the ability to feel one's own pulse, and see it, with perfect clarity. +3 [INT:PERC] when attempting to detect life forms hidden to him, primarily used as a counter to [SPD:STLH] rolls.
  • Bloodletter Effect: Symbiotic Defense: 3. While in some ways Maddy's body has been weakened by the effects of the Glo experiment, it now also has a means of compensating in the face of danger — when wounded, the Bloodletter effect takes over in an automatic defense mechanism, reducing taken damage.
    • Mechanics: Defense: Total physical health must be below a threshold of 6PHP in order for the Bloodletter effect to take hold; +2 to [TGH:RES] will be applied once this condition is met. A further +1 can be added once this threshold drops below 3PHP. Subsequently, if Maddy is healed above 6PHP, the bonus will drop.
  • Bloodletter Effect: Unknown.

Personal History:

Madison James Harpur was born in March of 1960 to Foundation agent Aidan S. Harpur. He does not know the identity of his birth mother, though would grow up with the presence of both a stepfather and godmother in his life.

His childhood was hectic, even at best - between changes of scenery moving between the world of the Foundation and the world of civilians, partnered with health issues and an odd disconnect from his own identity, Maddy's experiences were nothing short of confusing and obviously lacking in stability. Because of this, he was often noted as being a rather reclusive albeit bright child; with an aptitude for mathematics and logic and a strong preference for literature over the company of others, he was a skilled learner with easily recognisable capability despite his aversion to people.
Bouts of illness of course did nothing to help his solitary nature, and perhaps may have even exacerbated it when a particularly bad episode of sickness in his early teens left him even more isolated. It is the complications of this illness - measles specifically - that lead to the hearing loss he has today.

As mentioned prior, Madison was never truly comfortable with his identity, and eventually sought to transition in mid-1977 after learning that it was, in fact, possible for him to do so. His overall health initially raised concerns on the safety of doing such, however with the support of family and Foundation medical services alike he was eventually able to begin living as himself; like a number of trans people at this point in time he sought to complete this transition as quickly as possible, eradicating his former identity for his own comfort and, more importantly, his safety.

Becoming more and more comfortable with himself for the first time in many years, Maddy's interests then turned towards a potential career in medicine - perhaps unsurprisingly this notion was inspired by a desire to be of aid to people like himself, and others.
Backed by a family with a strong medical background as well, the arduous task of studying for the career was made easier, and also allowed him to develop a small handful of skills and knowledge not specific to his chosen career path.

While still in training today to become a fully-fledged doctor, he has passed advanced medical proficiency tests, as well as having received basic combat training; following this, he was then transferred to Site-15 as a part of Mobile Task Force Delta-4 in order to continue his medical training, while also serving as a field medic for the Foundation.
