Madison Harpur

Player: War_

Position: Doctor-in-training/Field Medic

Demeanor: Mildly reserved, but makes an effort to be outgoing and friendly. Polite, to a degree that borders on paranoia regarding his treatment of people. A tad clumsy, both literally and socially.

Nature: Fairly intelligent in the sense that he’s perpetually sharp-witted, and acutely aware of the benefits of logical fore-planning. However, he is also in possession of a deep-seated, reckless impulsiveness that is at loggerheads with his own rationality - much like his father, if a bit more subdued due to his cautious nature. Extremely self-conscious in regards to his ability in perceiving, and relating to, the emotions of other people.

Description: Put simply, Madison personifies the word ‘friendly’; standing at 5’8” in height and weighing around 230lbs, he’s a large, strong albeit squishy-looking 24-year-old man with an odd mix of features. While a redhead, his true hair colour falls somewhere between ginger and auburn (think chestnut, almost), and his complexion is notably darker than that of someone of Irish ancestry (although he does possess the freckles). His facial features are quite distinct, with his face being generally squarish albeit a bit more rounded and soft, and his eyes tend to look a bit sunken from fatigue.
He opts to dress simply and casually in whatever’s comfortable - more often than not, sweatpants and some form of novelty t-shirt, if his work allows him to get away with such.
He can be seen wearing a hearing aid in each ear at all times.

Specialties
  • Tick-tock: 3. Being a doc destined for the field, Maddy's undoubtedly got to be fast on his feet in the case of critical injury for the sake of his teammates. Being a man who works surprisingly well under pressure, his cool head means that he can treat even the most life-threatening injuries…or, at least stabilise them. +3 [EDU:MED] while trying to stop continuous damage, such as that from inflicted poisons/toxins or heavy bleeding, or stabilising heavy trauma such as limb amputation.
  • Vital Point: 3. Being an avid observer of anatomy (and as deemed necessary by his profession, anatomical fault), Maddy has a keen eye for weak spots in one's defences. While not much of an active combatant himself the skill still has its uses, both for himself in emergencies, as well as being able to pass the information on to his teammates in combat scenarios. +3 [INT:PERC] when observing a person or humanoid for a weakness in its defences that can be exploited through ranged or melee attack, such as ineffective armouring or points of structural weakness that, if harmed, could cause incapacitation (dictated by GM fiat). This will not work for non-humanoid entities.
  • Unstoppable Force Meets An Immovable Object: 2. Maddy's a bit of a big guy, and despite looks is fairly sturdy and not exactly someone who can just be shoved out of the way or held back. +2 [STR:ATH] in scenarios where Maddy is required to either place someone in a non-lethal chokehold, or is attempting to break free from a chokehold himself.
  • Chemical Trace: 4. Pseudo-anomalous. Having been made something slightly-less-than human for Night’s own amusement, Maddy now has an advanced vomeronasal organ and prehensile tongue - similar to that of a reptile’s - for chemoreception. +4 [INT:PERC] when rolling to detect residual chemical and biological traces in an area, e.g. crime scenes, laboratories, and areas with potential traces of poisons and aerosolized material. A high enough roll, as dictated by GM fiat, can also be used to determine an estimated time period for the occurrence of an event.
    • Flaw: Stunted Recovery. Maddy's bodily responses to trauma have been altered by the changes Night stuck him with - localised mutation to injured areas occur in a failed healing response, instead impeding the healing process. Healing die recover health points worth half the resulting value rounded down, e.g a result of 4 will mean only two healthpoints are healed, a 3 will mean only 1, etc.

Personal History:

Madison James Harpur was born in March of 1960 to Foundation agent Aidan S. Harpur. He did not know the identity of his birth mother, though would grow up with the presence of both a stepfather and godmother in his life.

His childhood was hectic, even at best - between changes of scenery moving between the world of the Foundation and the world of civilians, partnered with health issues and an odd disconnect from his own identity, Maddy's experiences were nothing short of confusing and obviously lacking in stability. Because of this, he was often noted as being a rather reclusive albeit bright child; with an aptitude for mathematics and logic and a strong preference for literature over the company of others, he was a skilled learner with easily recognisable capability despite his aversion to people.
Bouts of illness of course did nothing to help his solitary nature, and perhaps may have even exacerbated it when a particularly bad episode of sickness in his early teens left him even more isolated. It is the complications of this illness - measles specifically - that lead to the hearing loss he has today.

As mentioned prior, Madison was never truly comfortable with his identity, and eventually sought to transition in mid-1977 after learning that it was, in fact, possible for him to do so. His overall health initially raised concerns on the safety of doing such, however with the support of family and Foundation medical services alike he was eventually able to begin living as himself; like a number of trans people at this point in time he sought to complete this transition as quickly as possible, eradicating his former identity for his own comfort and, more importantly, his safety.

Becoming more and more comfortable with himself for the first time in many years, Maddy's interests then turned towards a potential career in medicine - perhaps unsurprisingly this notion was inspired by a desire to be of aid to people like himself, and others.
Backed by a family with a strong medical background as well, the arduous task of studying for the career was made easier, and also allowed him to develop a small handful of skills and knowledge not specific to his chosen career path.

While still in training today to become a fully-fledged doctor, he has passed advanced medical proficiency tests, as well as having received basic combat training; following this, he was then transferred to Site-15 as a part of Mobile Task Force Delta-4 in order to continue his medical training, while also serving as a field medic for the Foundation.

  • Prone to migraines, much to his annoyance
  • Has four tattoos: one on his left shoulderblade, An ornate key, stylised like an ink and pencil sketch, with ink spatterings; one on his right wrist, a small Staff of Asclepius; one on his right shoulder, a stag's skull with ox-eye daisies; and one on his inner elbow, a Chicago Spirit tattoo.
  • Glacon rates his musical abilities at 9/10 for vocals and 10/10 for instrumental, apparently.

Loot

  • Forensics Kit: Comprised of a miniaturised camera, a blacklight, cotton swabs, a brush, some sterile glass vials, and fingerprinting tape, all in a small container about the size of a wallet. Can be used to collect and preserve evidence and samples from a crime scene indefinitely.
  • Body Shell: Another result of the Foundation's recent advances in material science. Semi-flexible full body armour and jacket. Can be worn with other equipment but cannot be easily hidden or disguised. Additional 3PHP when worn.
  • Library Key (Madison): An ornate brass key inlaid with a glowing ruby. Etched onto its side, in runes, reads "Entrust only to those you would allow into the deepest recesses of your soul." Supposedly a means of accessing his memories.
