Personal History:

Leon Giroux Audley was born to hardworking automobile industrialist Gregory Audley on April 20, 1920, in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Although his father was always busy with work, Gregory and his wife Celeste made every attempt to love and properly raise their young boy, who would eventually be the eldest of 4.

Ever since his youth, Leon was surrounded by parts and pieces, from Erector sets bought by his parents and relatives, to custom fabricated parts created for him by his father. When Leon was old enough to understand, Gregory began to train him not only in the art of machining, but also in the study of engineering, to further hone young Leon's affinity for tinkering and assembly.

In 1938, Leon, with a strong background in mathematics, sciences, and practical engineering, went to the Royal Military College of Canada to begin his post-secondary training and to follow in the footsteps of his forefathers, who were decorated British and Canadian soldiers. Leon would go on to be the last graduating class of RMC before the College was dedicated to wartime training, during the hostilities of the Second World War.

Following his graduation, Sub Lieutenant Audley was assigned to oversee the maintenance crew of the newly christened HMS Nabob in 1943, which had just arrived in Vancouver for retrofitting and modifications. He was assigned to command the new retrofit crew, which would eventually become part of his maintenance and repair team, and also spent time on familiarizing himself with the aircraft that the Nabob would be destined to carry.

In 1944, the Nabob was torpedoed by a German submarine while conducting a refuel operation in the Barents sea. Although badly injured from the strike, Lieutenant Audley assisted with minimizing the damage and directing the surviving members of his shop to assist in repairs. Following this incident, the Nabob was considered a lost cause, and subsequently beached. Lieutenant Audley and his surviving shop team were transferred to the HMS Puncher in 1945, and continued to serve with her until the end of the Second World War.

In 1948, Lieutenant-Commander Audley was assigned a new shop upon his transfer to the newly commissioned HMCS Magnificent, and continued admirable service with her until her decommissioning in 1957. At that point, the Royal Canadian Navy honorably released Lieutenant-Commander Audley, and he returned in time to see his mother and father one last time before they passed in January of 1958.

In August of 1958, Leon Audley was recruited into the Foundation following a recommendation from a former officer and colleague that was in the Foundation service. Leon Audley was inducted into Foundation service shortly afterwards, as a engineering specialist and repair specialist.
