Kryton had a rough childhood, he knew he was different at a young age. Kryton spent most of his young years doing things other kids wouldn't do or would otherwise be considered abnormal. For instance, concentrating heavily on wooden block with letters. In this way Kryton showed the ability to spell words at a young age.
Kryton's obsession continued in his adolescent life and really manifested in College. He was handpicked by a government agency when he scored abnormally high on a military recruiting test.
His abilities were further used in his inevitable job as a Cryptanalyst. He studied the german enigma machines heavily in his studies and did his part in post World War 2 surveillance.
It was when he made a few major breaks in Russian classified messages that he was brought to the attention of the Foundation.
The Foundation will need more people studying the possibilities of the enigmagraphs.
