Joaquim Adão

Player: Kaeru

Position: Medic and memetics specialist

Demeanor: Seems friendly and optimistic. Innocent and excitable, possibly a bit naive. Always very chipper.

Nature: Very open, genuinely just wants to do what he can for people. Terrified of being unable to help when the situation arises. Reckless when under pressure, but cautious when investigating or working in fields he’s comfortable with. Very hard to phase. Too hard to phase, some may argue.

Description: Small in stature, with long dreadlocks usually tied together into a sloppy sort of high bun that makes the loose dreads frame his face. Big, dark eyes and a wide nose. Always clean-shaven and sporting a wide smile. Thick French accents with hints of Dutch, often pauses mid-sentence as if searching for the right words. Generally wears fairly tight-fitting clothing, and prefers long sleeves and pants. Always has several band rings on each hand, each unique— mostly silver, three bronze.

Specialties

You have eight points to distribute among as many or as few specialty skills as you see fit (but at least three is almost always warranted). Remember to explain what each specialty entails.

  • Weapon of choice: 1. Quim is most comfortable with a pistol, always has been. Whenever he rolls a 1 for damage on a light weapon, he can immediately roll another damage die of the same type and add the damage.
  • Il ne faut rien laisser au hasard: 1. Sometimes, prioritizing front-line combattants can win you the time you need to treat others. Instead of only being able to spend 1 medical die a turn, Quim can expend two of them to immediately give one teammate 6 hit points back.
  • Medical stasis: 2. Quim has a talent for buying himself more time. When a nearby creature is under a progressive infection, conversion, or other medical condition, he can expend one medical die or pass a medical check with a DC set by the GM to stall the progression for two rounds, giving him more time to work.
  • ??? 4. ??? ?? ??????

Gear:

P220 Original (threaded barrel), attachable silencer, ammo pouch
Walther WA2000, attachable scope, ammo pouch
Personalized medical kit
Forensics kit (miniaturized camera, a blacklight, cotton swabs, a brush, some sterile glass vials, and fingerprinting tape— used to preserve evidence)
Survival pack (binoculars, canteen, rations, compass, radio, extra medical supplies, small flashlight)

Possessions:

Novels, mostly in French
Framed pictures of scenery
A collection of records, most of which are either instrumental or in French
Medical uniforms
Casual clothing, mostly suited to warm or hot weather
A small first aid kit that lives on his desk
Assorted sketchbooks and journals
A small jeweler's kit for making rings, with materials (mostly silver, some bronze)
Small empty ring box with a blank scrap of paper inside

Personal History:

Born in 1959 in a small town in Haiti, Joaquim never had much of a family to come home to. He lived with two mothers and a little sister for most of his childhood, none of which he was related to by blood. Hurricane Flora had rendered the town damaged and broken in his youth, and, he assumed, had killed whatever blood family he had. He did what he could to help the family that took him in, however, and soon had settled into a happy, albeit humble, life. But he often encountered situations where people were injured or sick and he could do nothing to help. With what limited resources he had, he tried to study medicine, and ended up getting his wish. He moved to the Caribbean Netherlands for college and was, after completing his studies, recruited by the Foundation. A small luck charm he’d found as a child wasn’t as ordinary as it appeared— and though he knew that, he managed to figure out its quirks and use it to his own advantage. This was what got him in the Foundation’s sights, and his academics were what warranted offering him a job.
