Jina Ban

Player: Laonasa

Position: Jack-of-all-Trades Scout

Demeanor: Open and talkative, Jina's generally enthusiastic and passionate about her interests. Some call her hyperactive.

Nature: A true 'Jack-of-all-Trades', Jina is incredibly curious and likes a lot of things. She has many hobbies, though she's not necessarily good at them. She's always pumped to try new things, and sometimes this can be tiring for those around her.
Jina is an incredibly, sometimes problematically, optimistic person. This is not to say that she is dreamy or detached from reality; rather, she simply views the world around her much more compactly and clean-cut than it really is. Sometimes this leads her to be overly trusting of other people.
Once she opens up to someone (which doesn't take long), it is easy to see how she subconsciously puts up a more brighter, happier front towards strangers. In reality, she's more grounded than she appears, and has some anxieties that bother her when she's alone. This is one of the reasons why she doesn't like being alone, but she's not particularly good at maintaining relationships- sometimes, people get overwhelmed by her enthusiasm. Her anxieties and fears can sometimes cause dramatic mood shifts, though she tries to keep herself out of such states.

Description: Jina has dark hair and light olive skin, with amber eyes. She's on the shorter side (5 foot 2), with a lean body fit for a runner. Her facial features are predominantly East Asian, though her double eyelids and high-bridged nose are evidence of her Eurasian heritage. Her hair's cut to chin-length to keep it from becoming an obstacle while scouting, and it has a streak of white down the side of her head. She doesn't really care about her clothing (and thus makes some very questionable fashion choices) but she likes miscellaneous baubles such as leather bracelets, pendants, and ear cuffs.

  • Shadow Scout: 2. A talented runner from her youth, Jina knows the best paths to take, the most silent ways to move. She only gets better when she's the first to investigate something.

Grants a +2 to Stealth when she is exploring a location or looking for something on her own.

  • Baramun's Arrow: 4. Jina's family used to always tell her she was blessed by a wind god. Whether that was just a shamanistic superstition or not, Jina never found out. Still, sometimes her long-standing hobby of archery does pay off… and when it does, she's bound to be using her grandfather's gift.

+3 Ranged, +1 Acrobatics when she's wielding a bow while she's facing off an "occult" hostile or while under psionic influence. In addition, she has 7 specialized arrow tips that can deal damage (roll+1) to a noncorporeal entity. She can share these arrow tips with another teammate.

  • Honed Instincts: 2. All that time being a part of the Foundation's Investigative Department has done a lot for her instincts. She's trained herself to spot discrepancies and pieces that doesn't fit; it's easier for her to spot a falsity.

+2 Insight when she's trying to tell if something is a lie / false.

Personal History:

Jina Ban (반진아) was born in in the late 1960s, to Korean shaman Hwa-yeon Ban (반화연) and American soldier Julian Astor. Though her parents were engaged, her father died during the Vietnam war, just a month after she was born, and just one week before he was to marry Jina's mother.

In a war-ridden, poverty-struck country, Jina was raised in a rural mountain town by her single mother and grandparents. She had many aunts and uncles and cousins, however, who lived in the same village. As a young child, she was raised to become the next Mudang in her family.

At age nine, however, her father's older brother- Kenneth Astor- came to Korea. Both he and his brother had been childless, and as the only surviving child of his family, he wanted Jina to grow up in America. The real reason was that he was suffering from a chronic illness, and needed both help and a heir- so he wanted to raise Jina where she could help him. In return, he would support her full education and send money to help out with the Ban family. Jina and her mother agreed, and Jina boarded a boat to San Francisco. As it turned out, Kenneth Astor was a relatively wealthy heir (enough to live comfortably for the rest of his life while raising a young charge), and he introduced Jina to his household, and to America.

During her early teenage years, Jina was bullied because of her foreign heritage. This resulted in a lot of internal frustration and anxiety that eventually drove her to seek help from a therapist. At the age of fourteen, thanks to her therapist's suggestion, she picked up archery and gymnastics as a way to distract herself, and became enamored with sports. Her interest soon spread to other sports, such as obstacle running.

Not long after she graduated high school, she was swept up in a botched UIU incident that resulted in numerous FBI casualties. When the Foundation was sent in for cleanup, they discovered Jina leading the SCP around a complicated path to keep it away from civilians. Shortly after, Jina was recruited into the Foundation as a part of the Intelligence Agency. Her work there proved exceptional, and after seven years as part of the Intelligence department, she was reassigned to a Mobile Task Force.
