Personal History:

Jay Roslen was born into a relatively poor life in Chicago, Illinois in 1919. Jay's deaf father had died shortly before Jay's birth due to his lack of ability to hear approaching trains. However, Jay grew up in a very close relationship with his mother. She would often look into the night sky with him as they conversed about what could be "out there." This led Jay to be curious and adventurous in nature. He had planned to become a treasure hunter and explore the world, but his plans changed when his mother was brutally murdered in 1930. The police could not track down her murderer. Jay, feeling entitled to vengeance, sought out training in the investigative field.

At the age of 12, Jay had found a mentor: a police detective who had been forced into retirement due to a traumatic leg injury. Up until Jay was 20 years old, the retired detective taught Jay as much as he could. At this point, Jay's mentor passed away and left his cane to Jay as a reminder of his teachings. Using his newly developed deductive abilities, Jay became a private detective, apprehending criminals to pay the rent.

Finally, when Jay was 28 years old, his abilities led him to what he had yearned for since he 17 years: revenge. Jay successfully hunted down and killed the man who had murdered his mother. Jay then used his abilities as a detective to make sure that nobody ever found out that he had exacted his revenge. Otherwise, this would have been considered murder.

After this dark period in his life, Jay decided to move on and try to repress as much negativity from his past as possible. He did this by following his original dream of being a treasure hunter. At the age of 31, Jay discovered his first ancient artifact: a bronze shield. Although he kept the shield, he had attracted the attention of many black market artifact buyers. He continued exploring the world and uncovering hidden relics, which he sold illegally to pay his bills, up until the age of 36. This was when the SCP Foundation decided that Jay Roslen's skills would be invaluable in the search and containment of SCP's and recruited him.
