Pseudo-Specialty Skills

  • Survival: 4
  • Sneak: 3

You have twelve points to distribute among as many or as few specialty skills as you see fit (but at least three is almost always warranted). Remember to explain what each specialty entails.

  • A Thief in the Night: 5 Feeding a family of eight usually entails engaging in some… less than legal activity to make ends meet. This usually means breaking into a secure building at night or swiping some morsels from the food stall, but sometimes these skills can be put to other uses. The longer he sneaks around, however, the more Herschel finds himself pushing his luck… (+5 Lockpick. +5 Sneak, if not in combat, to blending into a crowd or hiding in the dark. Sneak bonus decays by -2 per turn to a minimum of +1.)
  • Thinking Outside the Box: 4 When a problem comes along, (and they usually do so very often) Herschel often finds himself in the not-so-very peculiar situation of having to solve them. Using his wit and just a little bit of luck, he usually doesn't steer himself wrong. (At the GM's discretion, Herschel can roll to figure out the solution of a puzzle, or to make potentially correct leaps in logic about a certain subject)
  • Goodnight: 3 Herschel's time with the Polish resistance has made him weary of using lethal force on the enemy, 'lest he become the very evil he seeks to destroy' and all that nonsense. Either way, he's very well practiced in the art of taking someone out quietly. (+3 melee to non-lethal takedowns)

Personal History:

There aren't many written records of the man known as Herschel Osterberg. The birth registry places his birthdate at December 22, 1924, to David and Esther Osterberg in Berlin, but after the records are of dubious authenticity.
Most records place him in the Krakow Ghetto in 1940, while also being spotted, within the span of a few months, in several other ghettos across the country. These records continue until the liberation of the ghettos and concentration camps near the end of the war.
After that he was recorded using a german citizenship card to gain admittance into Berlin. Not much else is known about his activities after that, due to limited availability of information from the Eastern Bloc. That is, until a chance encounter with a certain Task Force operating on the wrong side of the Wall…
