Elektra "Lux" Karahalios

Basic Info:

Player: Scantron

Position: Workhorse / support role / ascended anomaly

Demeanor: Gruff, simple, irritable.

Nature: Proud, down-to-earth, loyal.

Description: 6'0", muscular build, 32 years old. Olive skin, dark hair, dark eyes, some burn scarring around the lips. She opts for long-sleeved shirts and trousers, with a thick insulating sleeve and glove over her left arm. Her Greek accent is this thick.

Her left arm past the elbow (the transition is smooth) appears and feels to be glassy, though as flexible as human flesh. It is filled with some cloudy, glowing material. The color fluctuates over the course of hours across the spectrum, though Elektra can somewhat control its intensity. It has an external temperature of between 100-140°F, also somewhat under Elektra's control. It is unusually good at absorbing impacts and vibrates subtly.

Specialty Skills:

You have twelve points to distribute among as many or as few specialty skills as you see fit (but at least three is almost always warranted). Remember to explain what each specialty entails.

  • Detox: 2. Elektra's body is unusually good at breaking down toxins of all sorts.
  • Grappling: 3. Elektra is skilled in grappling.
  • Farming: 4. Elektra was born and raised on an olive farm, and knows how a farm should be run and how to perform the tasks involved.
  • Burning Hand: 3. Elektra's left arm up to the elbow (described above) is abnormally sturdy, glows, and sits at 100-140°F. Roll this specialty to absorb an impact with the arm, control the intensity of the light it emits, or control its temperature.
    • Unfortunately for Elektra, the arm's internal vibrations produce a high-pitched noise that is only audible to her, and can be distracting. Functionally, this takes the form of a passive -1 penalty to Perception, Mental Defense, and any activity that requires intense concentration.

Personal History:

Elektra was born on December 24th, 1924, near Filiatra, Greece to the owners of a small olive farm. For lack of any sons in the family and on account of her father's bad leg, Elektra was raised to do much of the work of running the farm, with the understanding that she would inherit the farm along with her two younger sisters (1925 and 1927). While this had the effect of somewhat isolating Elektra from society's more modern elements, the strenuous physical labor, wholesome Mediterranean farm diet, and being brought up to fill a boy's shoes (and possibly some good luck) resulted in her growing up big, strong, and healthy. She and her younger sisters, in their spare time, enjoyed wrestling with each other; on days where she would go into town to sell the olives or pick up supplies or whatever, she would organize similar activities with other local children.

The farm managed to stay above water during the Great Depression, somehow, with Elektra being 16 when Nazi Germany rolled in. While the 4th of August Regime was not terribly kind to her lifestyle, the collaborationist government under Germany was intolerable, and more importantly, Elektra was old enough that her parents couldn't stop her from joining the communist-led resistance when it dropped by looking for recruits. The farm was left in the capable hands of her mother and two sisters as she went off with the resistance.

In the resistance, Elektra gained a reputation for her physical strength and endurance, her preference for hand-to-hand combat, and her ability to prosper on less-than-quality rations. In the course of learning combat skills, her ability to avoid illness and poisoning led to her getting noticed by a small group of resistance fighters who were attempting to use some not-described-here anomaly to produce a 'super soldier' of various sorts. In addition to her normal duties, she would do some guinea pigging for this group — results were impressive and without side effects, but also wholly non-permanent and ultimately not terribly useful.

Near the end of 1944, however, a fluke happened, and one of the external-application solutions caused her left hand to go through painful necrosis. It was a rather quick-acting process, meaning that a wrap-around cut and tourniquet could only be applied at her elbow. Fortunately, this worked at halting the progression of the necrosis. Elektra and the chemists thought that this had permanently incapacitated her until the afflicted arm began to heat up and glow. Over about eighteen hours, her forearm transitioned into its present state. Elektra was kept under observation for a few days thereafter, to test out the parameters of her new condition; in that timeframe, she developed some control over it. Back in the field, while the fighting was winding down, the arm proved to be a valuable tool for fucking up nazis, which made everyone involved (except the Nazis) pretty much cool with it.

As the German occupation transitioned into the Greek civil war, Elektra's comrades fought against the Greek government, and so did she, after an interlude where she assisted her remaining sister (and said sister's husband) in restoring the family farm. Back in the field, she served in several support positions (holding guns for extended periods of time made them too hot to be used well), and some new comrades there gave her the nickname "Lux".

Forces beyond her control, however, ultimately resulted in the defeat of the communists. Being very easily recognizable on two accounts, it was implausible for Elektra to phase herself back into society — there were warrants out for her and other comrades. She fled to the People's Republic of Bulgaria, where she worked on a collectively-organized olive farm for a few years.

While the fairly comfortable living arrangements in Bulgaria were an upgrade from almost certain imprisonment in Greece, Elektra was still too Greek to truly integrate with Bulgarian society, and she resented being pushed towards "gender-appropriate" activities, garb, behavior, etc. As such, when someone claiming to be a comrade offered to show her to a safe place back in Greece, she didn't examine the situation too carefully, and wound up caught in a Foundation trap.

She was given two choices: Remain in containment as an anomaly; or, do work for the Foundation, be given some degree of freedom and comfortable living arrangements, and have a stipend sent to her remaining family (her sister had a child recently) so that they could also live comfortably. Deciding to make the sacrifice for her sister, she traveled with the Foundation back to the United States and was signed up with MTF Psi-7.
