Dahlia Gray

Basic Info:

Player: Alchemy

Position: Cryptozoology Veterinarian and Animal Welfare Advocate

Demeanor: Quiet and pensive. Active listener and openly welcoming of people who need to let out frustrations. Rarely shows any strong emotions herself, unless the welfare of close friends, or animals are concerned.

Nature: Feels her emotions deeply, and because of her tendency to take on other's problems, often has to let these feelings out privately all at once. Of the mind that her own feelings are largely irrelevant to what she's doing in the world. Wants nothing more than to leave things better than she found them.

Description: A woman of slightly taller than average stature, Dahlia stand at about 5'9 tall, and is of mixed European decent. She is slightly overweight, but carries it well, having built up working muscles from her work with animals. She usually wears comfortable dress clothes, but doesn't fear getting dirty if she has to.

  • Animal Biology: 4 Dahlia's studies to become a veterinarian have given her an understanding and identification of many mammals, avians, and reptiles. She can use her Medicine role to heal non-human creatures as long as they obviously resemble a mundane earth creature, or with a successful Science roll, or add +4 to her Survival roll to identify an animal given enough information.
  • Advocacy: 3 When passionate about a cause she believes in deeply, Dahlia can orate about is quite well. She can add +3 to Persuasion when talking about the little corners of intersectional activism she carries.
  • The Forest for the Trees: 3 Dahlia has spent a lot of her spare time working in wildlife outreach, finding, treating, and tagging various wild animals. This has lead to her being able to hyperfocus to find smaller animals, or look out for larger dangers. She gains +3 to perception while looking out for dangers.
  • Standing Her Ground: 2 Activism, animal or otherwise have lead to a lot of people trying to change Dahlia's mind, and she's only become more resolute in her ideals. She gains +2 to her Mental Defense against attempts to control her will, persuade, or intimidate her.

Personal History:

Dahlia was born on December 17th, 1928, to Maryna and Hugo Gray, in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Her parents had immigrated from Marseilles, France, to follow job opportunities for Maryna in behavioural research of the interactions between Canadians and the indigenous peoples, and for Hugo in pharmacological chemistry. Growing up, Dahlia was always encouraged to follow intellectual pursuits, her parents citing the Depression as proof that using your mind would always get you farther.
During high school, she planned to attend med-school and become a doctor, but when it came time to go to university, Dahlia chose to head towards veterinary sciences, much to the chagrin of her father. While it was difficult for Dahlia to find people that would take her seriously, she kept working hard, and was able to graduate with honours. She had a focus on small animal medicine, but in her off time would volunteer with wildlife outreach groups, secretly having a hobby in cryptid research.
It was during one such volunteering expedition that Dahlia was struck in the sternum and injured by a flitterbick, a rarely known flying squirrel cryptid. She was contacted in hospital by the Foundation, and found that her knowledge of mundane zoology, and long standing, deep interest in cryptozoology made her a good fit for the fledgling group.
