  • Target its Weak Spot: 5, Ranged. In a situation where a missed or bad shot could mean life or death, Conrad is good with determining where to shoot to make the best and only impression on a target. Armor joints, weakened sections, apparent weaknesses - all of these are recognizable to Conrad, and he exploits said weaknesses to their fullest. This spec grants Conrad a ranged bonus when firing at mechanical armored targets.
  • Reading the Tides of Battle: 4, Perception. Having studied battlefield tactics and theater strategy, Conrad is proficient in determining, through various factors, where the enemy will attempt to set up and traverse, and how to set up his men and his equipment to take advantage of an opportunity, or to circumvent an apparent advantage their enemy has against them. This spec grants Conrad a perception bonus when either attempting to determine enemy projected movements, or when figuring out the best way to move through terrain without getting caught in choke points or exposed areas.
  • Between a Rock and a Hard Place: 3, Physical Defense. Conrad is not a slouch in hand-to-hand combat either, having been in his fair share of fights as a kid, and often grossly outnumbered. He simply gets his back to something solid, and begins dishing out and receiving pain in return. This spec grants Conrad a physical defense bonus when he is outnumbered and is fighting with his back to a wall or otherwise large covering object.

Personal History:

Conrad Desaix was born on April 3, 1919, to a French-speaking family in the middle of the forests of Minnesota.

Marked as antisocial and weird by his peers, he made very few friends (and more enemies), and spent most of his childhood days in the field, hunting game with his father's rifle, and cooking said game. His parents were very impressed with his ability to cook. He also performed some vehicle work on the side, during the winter seasons.

During the Great Depression, Conrad and his family were not badly affected by the economic collapse, as they simply lived in their little house, and maintained their own little garden and hunted the game in the forest. During this time, Conrad began to hunt for larger and more dangerous animals.

At the outbreak of the Second World War, one of Conrad's father's friends, a local recruiter for the US Army, came to visit them. Seeing Conrad come back with some heavy game, he asked his father about the son, to which the father exclaimed that he has developed, on his own volition, some of the best hunting and wilderness skills their state had to offer. Intrigued, the recruiter asked if Conrad was capable of hunting men instead of animals.

Conrad's answer: "Yes."

Despite his already masterful handling of the rifle, fate would intervene, having Conrad sent to Fort Knox where he would be part of the thousands of enlisted personnel that graduated from the Armored Force School. Assigned firstly as a gunner, and then working his way up to a commander, Conrad was shipped out to the front to command a M18 Hellcat.

During most of his experience in the front, he and his crew scored over 20 confirmed kills of German armor, utilizing the speed of his vehicle and the slow turret traversing speed of German tanks to his advantage.

Shortly before the war ended, he was commissioned, and finished the war as a 1st lieutenant, overseeing two M18s of his own. Returning back to the States after the war, he did two things of importance to him: 1) he went and got his degree in mechanical engineering (supported by all the maintenance he needed to do in the field), and 2) he was sent back to Fort Knox to begin formal instruction on battlefield tactics and armored stratagems - both of which would be useful to him in the Korean War.

Shipped to Korea alongside a company of M36 tank destroyers, Captain Desaix found out, like other line commanders, that the M36s easily destroyed Soviet-made armor, thus further encouraging their use. He formed battle strategies that allowed American forces to overwhelm North Korean armor columns with the M36s, and with later M46 Patton tanks.

While visiting a forward operating base, his position was hit with North Korean artillery, severely injuring him and several other officers and personnel. He was shipped back to the States, and eventually stepped down from active service to serve as an instructional officer at the US Army Armor School.

In late 1956, the Foundation approached Major Desaix with an offer to assist Foundation forces with stratagems for dealing with the increased incursion of armored threats. Major Desaix initially declined such an offer, feeling that his services would be better spent in service to the United States.

After much bargaining and negotiations, Major Conrad Desaix stepped down from his instructional post at Fort Knox, and became a strategic threat assessment officer for the Foundation in the beginning of 1957. He has served in a HQ role, managing Foundation paramilitary operations in the Pacific sphere, including overseeing item recovery and counter-insurgency operations in Korea and the Philippines.

Major Desaix has been transferred to Psi-7 to assist in overcoming armored threats and provide overall strategic and tactical advice, as well as to assist in paramilitary operations in the Mediterranean. He is also working with Command assets to help develop the Foundation's motorized assets.
