Charlotte Silvernell

Basic Info:

Player: TeslaTornado

Position: Parapsychoanalyst, trauma counselor, field operations advisor

Demeanor: "Can I speak to your manager?" - Some random white woman at a Starbucks, probably

Nature: Fast-talking and deep in her own stream of consciousness, she has to occasionally put in a lot of effort to get out of her own head and into someone else's, but when she does manage to break into you, she is in. A firm believer in the credo that there is no such thing as a lost cause, Charlotte will fight tooth and claw to help the people she cares about, regardless of the appearances she may give off. And that appearance, to some, can run the gamut from "kind of a bitch" to Language You Can't Use In Front Of Your Mom.

She accepts that, and has occasionally been known to steer into the skid, feeding into the pretense of being a hard-headed, stuck-up bitch to those who want to believe that she is a hard-headed, stuck-up bitch. But to anyone outside of those who are determined to see her as just that, she is a genuine person who refuses to be kept from having her say in a conversation. She's heartfelt and wears her emotions on her sleeve and isn't afraid to show that, and her determination, willpower, and headstrong attitude form a three-cored iron band that runs down her spine, connecting her head and her heart in an unbreakable bond.

Description: A walking, moving incongruity, Charlotte is tall and willowy, with reddish-brown hair that she keeps in a bob or tied back. Her face is narrow, with high cheekbones and rounded eyes, and a small mouth, the corners tugged downward in a slight frown at all times (genetics can be unfortunate sometimes). Her skin, contrastingly, is well-tanned, lending her an almost Mediterranean complexion, and her posture and bearing are those of an athlete or career soldier.

In terms of casual dress, she tends to lean towards clothing typical of her time; knee-length pleated skirts and blouses paired with flat shoes and calf socks or stockings. Though she's rarely caught in casual dress outside of her office - the majority of the time, she can be found dressed in Foundation-issued women's fatigues or an MTF uniform. She seems to display no preference for the dress of one gender or another, viewing them both as simply a way to preserve her modesty.

Of note is that her right arm terminates at the mid-bicep, leaving her with an approximately five-inch long stump that she refuses in all but the most pressing circumstances to append a prosthetic to; instead preferring to either tie the sleeve off below the stump or pin it across the front of her shirt.

Specialties

You have twelve points to distribute among as many or as few specialty skills as you see fit (but at least three is almost always warranted). Remember to explain what each specialty entails.

  • One-Armed Bandit: 4. Typically, the loss of a limb in any situation would result in a significant drop in the field effectiveness of an MTF operative. Charlotte has been out to overthrow that assumption single-handedly, pun intended, ever since her arm was lost. This determination led to her undergoing months of intense physical therapy and developing several workarounds which allow her to function with one hand almost as well as any other old two-armed person.
  • Resist and Reject: 4. The hazards of being an operative in any MTF don't stop at bodily harm. The mind is just as much a part of the battlefield as the ground itself, and requires just as skilled and capable of an individual to tend to it. Charlotte's training in parapsychology allows her to quickly analyze the nature of a psychological threat and how it attacks the mind, and how to respond accordingly in order to mitigate the damage for a limited amount of time.
  • Cautious And Compartmentalized: 4. Studying the effects of psychic and mind-altering anomalies places the researcher directly in the sights of whatever they're studying. Precautions and preparation are the most powerful weapons in the arsenal of the parapsychologist, and Charlotte has spent a not-insignificant amount of time and effort in training her mind in defending itself from external threats as well as how best to study them and observe their effects firsthand.

Carrying it as a memento of her former squad leader and teammate, Charlotte had the weapon extensively customized to allow her to use it. On the list of modifications:
      • Weighted and reinforced competitive shooting barrel. Adjusts the weapon's center of balance, allowing Charlotte to acquire targets and fire effectively with one hand while effectively controlling recoil.
      • Modified chamber and feed mechanism based on "acquired" copies of George Luger's 1907 design schematics for a Luger P08 chambered in .45 ACP, which allows Charlotte's pistol to fire the more common American round.
      • A forearm brace has been attached to the handgun where the stock would normally be affixed for further recoil control. The brace additionally has a mechanism that can automatically release the pistol's locking bolt, making reloading with one hand easier.
  • IMI Uzi
    • Chambered in 9x19 Parabellum, this relatively recently-designed submachine gun was given to Charlotte in lieu of the difficulty that using modern long guns presents (due to issues with aiming, magazine design, etc).

Personal History:

Charlotte is the daughter of Captain James Silvernell, USN, and Leanna Silvernell. Born in 1930, Charlotte spent her formative years raised in a coastal town in Rhode Island. Outgoing and precocious from a young age, she was something of a social butterfly with a strong and outspoken personality - something that gave her parents and teachers no end of trouble, as the flipside of that coin was trying to keep her reined in with subjects that interested her enough to keep her from wandering away.

At age eleven, in 1941, Captain James Silvernell was called to active duty, commanding a PT boat in the Pacific Campaign, and Leanna went to work sewing parachutes. This left a young Charlotte to be balanced by various aunts and uncles, which led to wild peaks and valleys in terms of her scholastic performance. But she pushed hard and graduated with good marks and eventually enrolling in the psychology program at Roger Williams University in 1947, graduating in 1954 (one year early, much to the chagrin of those who looked at her extracurricular activities).

She was hired by the SCP Foundation during a talent-scouting session, noting both her father's history of service in the armed forces and her own training in psychoanalysis and trauma counseling. She was attached to Mobile Task Force Iota-41 "TV Dinner" for a trial period and given combat training by Walter Metzger, a former Wehrmacht officer and the acting field operations coordinator for the task force, which specialized in dealing with infohazards, psychic entities, and other mind-altering anomalies. She was approved for field operations in 1955, attached to a team operating under Metzger's direct command.

In 1957, Agent Silvernell was deployed with two detachments from Iota-41 and a Global Occult Coalition rapid response team on a joint operation in Poland with the goal of seizing a former Nazi manufacturing compound that had been occupied by the Cult of the Broken God and converted into a "church," whose "faithful" were being "blessed" with an anomalous substance later confirmed to be a strain of SCP-217. Codenamed "Operation Elbow Grease," the teams encountered heavier-than-expected resistance from the entrenched Cult members, resulting in a near-100% casualty rate in the GOC team and the death of enough Foundation personnel to reclassify Iota-41 as combat inoperable.

On the list of casualties:

  • Lieutenant-Commander Walter Metzger, KIA.
  • Field Agent Charlotte Cassidy Silvernell, WIA, loss of right arm.

The months after Operation Elbow Grease are a blur of painkillers, physical therapy, and psychological evaluations to Charlotte, but she distinctly remembers receiving paperwork that declared her "physically unfit for field service" at least four separate times, and petitioning Iota-41's remaining command structure that she be cleared for field service. Apparently, her persistence paid off - after Iota-41 "TV Dinner"'s disbanding, she was formally reassigned to Mobile Task Force Psi-7 "Home Improvement."
