Celeste Bunting

Basic Info:

Player: spicaterrible

Position: Researcher

Demeanor: Cheery, unusually casual, walking encyclopedia, curious, and a gigantic oddball.

Nature: Celeste is a bit of an enigma, but at least she's a friendly one. She tends to ramble, talk out of turn, lose things, infodump, take situations less seriously than she should, and forget things that aren't facts and numbers. Generally has poor social skills, oblivious to her various oddities and irritating habits, though she seems to be the last one to be aware of or care about this fact about herself. Her interests primarily center around adding more knowledge to her already overstuffed brain no matter the risk, and she's greatly interested in studying the anomalous, given that she's memorized the book on nearly every other subject (though applying that knowledge practically is a different story). Outside of her weirdness, though, she's a genial, cheerful, empathetic, and kind person.

Description: Unusually small for 24, with a slight build. A bit owlish-looking and not particularly attractive, with big blue eyes and even bigger round glasses. A bit pale. Extremely long, unkempt platinum blonde hair, in which she often sticks things that she doesn't want to lose. Tends to wear oversized clothes too heavy for the weather, with a penchant for long, knitted coats.

Specialties
  • For Science!: 3. Celeste isn't the type to let imminent danger deter her from her favorite activity: gathering data. Maybe this makes her crazy, or maybe it just makes her really dedicated? (+3 to PERC when in a life-threatening situation. GM discretion as to what's considered life-threatening.)
  • Caring Instinct: 3. She might be an odd bird, but Celeste is a kind person and will jump to help those in need of assistance. However, she might have dug a little too deep into the old anatomy books, and she's totally clueless about basic first aid. Give her the scientific name of the muscle that's hurt, though, and you're golden. (+3 to MED when an injury occurs that requires specific anatomical knowledge to treat. Doesn't apply to more typical/obvious things such as bullet wounds.)
  • Don't Worry, I Read It In A Book Or Something: 4. Though she doesn't look…or act…or in any way seem like it, Celeste does have a degree. In biology. That leaf is definitely edible and very nutritious. (+2 to SURV and ACAD when knowledge of biology is required.)
  • Unbothered: 2. Celeste has an uncanny ability to ignore mind-melting effects and horrifying situations if there's something she wants to learn about involved. She's not heartless, though–if someone's seriously hurt, she'll abandon her studies to help. (+2 to MDEF when trying to gather data on or study an anomaly. Stops applying if a serious injury occurs to someone else; injuries to herself won't affect this spec.)

Personal History:

Celeste was born to well-off parents in Ohio in 1937, who love her dearly but are regular folks who are sorely unequipped to deal with their oddball prodigy of a daughter. Nevertheless, they made sure she grew up kind and strong and knowing how to take care of herself, and she's quite close to both of them, writing them letters when she can. Her parents facilitated her education entirely, the stumbling block of her being a girl either not bothering or not occuring to Celeste. Her voracious appetite for information led to her skipping several grades and graduating from Carnegie Mellon summa cum laude at the tender age of 19, with her social skills absolutely no better for it. She initially majored in biology, but found quickly that to satisfy her appetite for knowledge she was better off teaching herself in a wide range of subjects. Celeste moved to New York and studied constantly for two years, publishing several acclaimed research papers, but still found herself stymied as to why she couldn't seem to find many friends or colleagues. Once she reached the upper limit of compiled knowledge in the field of biology, she pursued independent study, and published several papers that teetered dangerously close to the anomalous; this got the Foundation's attention, and they contacted her at age 21 to join their ranks. She accepted this offer with a great deal of enthusiasm, and grew very loyal to the Foundation over the past three years of her employment there, though her gung-ho research tactics and many, many odd habits tend to raise eyebrows.
