Specialty Skills:

You have twelve points to distribute among as many or as few specialty skills as you see fit (but at least three is almost always warranted). Remember to explain what each specialty entails.

  • Misdirection: 5 Years in show-business will give you a sort of bravado and grandiose mannerism when speaking to people. Especially in distracting them from the bigger picture.. (+5 to bluff or persuasion when using small tricks to distract someone.)
  • Ol' Carny: 4 Be in the circus business for long enough and you learn some pretty neat tricks. Some of them are even practical. (+4 melee when using a whip. +4 ranged When using throwing knives.)
  • Prestidigitation: (Anomalous) 3 Avery was -if you believe her magic show intro- born under a full eclipse, cursed by a mysterious gypsy lady, and blessed by ten Sikhs to hold the power of a fallen god. All at the same time. Whatever you believe, however, Avery commands the power of a few staple magician's tricks that she combines to create a magic show like no other. They can be used on people, but it requires they're willing participants. (All tricks require a certain number of people be watching for it to work. The more people watching, the more powerful the trick. These can only be performed thrice per day total.)
    • Teleportation: As long as people can't see the object when it disappears or appears, Avery can teleport small objects1 from one location to another, usually in her hat, sleeve, or hand. This comes with the stipulation that she knows /exactly/ where the object is and where it's going to be. Larger and living objects can be teleported, but requires at least 10 people watching her to do so. (Base Req: 1)
    • Levitation: Avery also has the ability to levitate small objects and suspend them in the air, so long as he maintains eye contact and constant concentration. She can also use this ability on himself, others, and larger objects, but it requires at least 15 people watching her to do so. (Base Req: 3)
    • Duplication: Some tricks require more than one of something to be created, and this is exactly the ability for it. Avery can create duplicates of smaller objects that don't share the same properties of the original. Instead, they're much lighter and explode into multicolored confetti after a while. Larger objects, again, require at least 20 people watching to duplicate. Simple living creatures can also be duplicated, but intelligent creatures cannot. (Base Req: 5)

Personal History:

Circa 1951

Avery Charles-Wade Cohen was born in 1923, to a circus family travelling across America, her mother a fortune teller and her father a ringmaster. The circus fell upon hard times during the Great Depression, and many of the former acts left, including her mother.

Throughout her youth, Preston aspired to take part in the big tent show, but was unfortunately never good enough to be put into any of the main events. She tried acrobatics, strongman acts, and even sword swallowing, but never really excelled at any of them. One day, however, she was approached after a show by an old magician. After a short discussion, and Avery expressing interest in being a part of the act, the Magician offered to teach her the tricks of the trade. It was during this training that Avery learned the so-called 'Secret of Magic', which helped her to become one of the best selling acts in the circus

Her reputation steadily increased and Avery eventually went on to perform her own independent shows. She traveled across America in her own trailer, gaining a bit of a cult following as she went. She saw the height of his career after the war, as many Americans wanted a distraction from the horrors of the previous year. Avery just loved the feeling of making people happy. Unfortunately, she had his own demons to tend with.

Due to a string of drunk and disorderly conduct charges, as well as making a man's car disappear while intoxicated, her reputation fell rapidly. She was reduced from fame and fortune on the big stage to doing children's parties for $50 ($100 for adults).

Her chance to become relevant again came when, during one magic show, she managed to use her tricks to capture a wayward demon. After the thing was contained, The Foundation eventually rolled up to her trailer, interested in more than just her magic show…
