Arina Ionesco

Player: LadyKatie

Position: Biomedical Engineer

Demeanor: Arina keeps a professional attitude most of the time. She’s here to do a job, not make BFFs for life. So she keeps to herself, and does her job. That’s what matters

Nature: Arina is a little tooserious at times, and needs to learn what a work-life balance is when living on site. She keeps to herself, but you can bribe her out of her shell with movie tickets and CDs. She’ll loosen up around friends, and has a borderline obsession with American pop culture. That being said, she doesn’t care for having dozens of fake friends and doesn’t mind being alone.

Description: Arina keeps her blonde hair in a tightly coiled perm, maintained by an off site hairdresser because “nobody else gets it right.” For work, she wears her required gear and labcoat, but out of that she’s a big fan of shoulder pads, and nobody gets between her and her Levis. She’s slightly above average height, and rims her grey eyes with the bluest eyeshadow she can find.

Specialties 3

You have eight points to distribute among as many or as few specialty skills as you see fit (but at least three is almost always warranted). Remember to explain what each specialty entails.

  • Bot Doc: 3 Arina’s branch of biomedical engineering is mostly engineering. Arina has a bonus to repairing androids or prosthetics on the field. Off the field, she can improve said androids and prosthetics in a crafting situation (It's an engineering spec).
  • Pop Culture Junkie: 1 Arina will deny the degree to which she is obsessed with Western pop culture. Maybe it’s the “new” factor of overly decadent Hollywood movies, maybe she still feels rebellious listening to ABBA, the Rolling Stones, or Fleetwood Mac, and it’s possible that video games are going to change entertainment forever. She has opinions on Coke and Pepsi, her favorite blue jeans are Levi’s, and she plans on owning a Ford Mustang one day. (Bonus to current events and pop culture)
  • Get the Job Done: 2 Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what the job is, it has to get done. So while it’s normally not Arina’s job to carry the injured to medical, push something back into containment, or entertain visiting personnel, she can put that behind her and get the damn job done. (3 times per run/event, Arina can use this bonus to do something that doesn’t fall under her job usual duties [Science/Engineering], but a little more effort is needed to get a task finished. Cannot be used on anything under Intelligence or Education [bar Survival] or on defense rolls. In short, it has to benefit the group.)
  • Sickle and Hammer: 2 When bored at university, you find there's many stupid but wonderful uses for the tools you have at your disposal. Sometimes, you can hurt somebody, but if the "victim" was not being stupid there would not have been a problem. (Arina can use Engineering to craft an improvised weapon, provided she actually has something on hand that can be used as a weapon)

Personal History:

Arina was born on July 8, 1955 in a region of the USSR formerly known as Moldova. Her parents were both scientists, so she naturally fell into the field. Her childhood was uneventful, and involved a lot of “kicking dust and throwing rocks.” She wound up in a Polytechnic university, studying some new field involving meshing flesh with technology, biomedical engineering. She had enough fun with it to keep going, especially with it being the “new” thing and the recognition she received from her work kept her motivated. And in 1981, at a conference in London, Arina’s hotel alarm clock went off at three in the morning. She walked out of her hotel room with “the last shitty handbag I’ll ever carry,” convincing her team’s security detail she was just going for some tea and would be back shortly. Why would she just walk away from her life’s work? As it turns out the paranoia of living in the USSR makes life boring, and the western world felt more alive. She bought tea, killed time at a few pubs, and walked into the US embassy at 7:32 on the dot asking for asylum. But where do you take a runaway Russian/Moldovan/whatever scientist? Apparently, you just shove them in the most clandestine organization that can find some kind of use for weird prosthetics. Three months later she pierced her ears and got that perm she had been wanting since she saw some ad on a train station her first time leaving the Smotherland, and is now looking forward to starting her new position with Delta-4.
