Personal History:

Alan Ramsay was born in a small town in Scotland in 1923. Thinking himself a burden on his impoverished parents, he ran away and joined a European travelling circus at the age of 10. His abnormally limber body allowed him to become the circus's headlining escape artist. He would perform daring stunts, many of them nearly killing him, for the sake of thrilling a small audience every night. Over time, his tricks became grander and even more dangerous. He soon came into his own, with the circus revolving around him and all other acts becoming practically invisible.

However, there was a much darker side to the circus too. As it turned out, the boss, Michael Antonini, was a black market arms dealer using the touring circus as a cover-up for his gun smuggling operation. As such, members of the circus also acted as mercenaries. They were to protect Antonini's stockpile and his life at all costs. By night, curious children and rival criminals would sneak into the circus. Coincidentally, they would always disappear. Just as he was an escape artist, Alan Ramsay was one of the men making that happen. He served as a guard over Antonini's sleeping caravan. He became not only a cunning showman and stealthy conman, but also a gun-toting heavy.

After years of starving and doing tricks like a dog to cover some other man's criminal empire, Ramsay grew tired of his position. He hated having to shoot strangers dead for entering the circus at night. He hated having to worm his way out of shackles and boxes for scraps of food. Most of all, he hated Michael Antonini. During a stop in Italy, Ramsay decided to perform one final stunt. He left the circus for one day to perform what he had advertised as his "biggest escape yet." He was to escape from an abandoned prison, starting with a maximum-security cell in the center, that was filled with armed henchmen that he had commanded to kill him on sight. Antonini was among these men, proud to play a part in the escape. The circus, knowing they would rake in excessive amounts of cash from their favorite act, accommodated a razor wire fence for the prison and several deadly traps. Crowds gathered around the abandoned prison in hopes of seeing Ramsay make his escape. However, after several hours, the prison simply burst into flames. Fire spilled out of the windows as the halls were set ablaze. Many men screamed from the inside. When the screams stopped and the smoke cleared, Alan Ramsay was revealed standing at the top of a guard tower. Not only had he performed his biggest and most daring escape yet, but he had ended the reign of Michael Antonini. This caught the SCP Foundation's attention and Alan Ramsay was recruited to help field operatives escape sticky situations.

Miscellaneous:

  • Ramsay's best friend in his circus days was a Slavic sword swallower by the name of Helsbek Ternenkov. Ramsay begged for the Foundation to allow Ternenkov to join as well for his intimidation skills, but he was denied under suspicion of communism.
  • Ramsay got his trademark maroon coat from Antonini as a reward for making up for low gun sales in escape show revenue at the age of 26.
  • Ramsay, as a result of spending most of his life performing and enforcing, doesn't know much about the outside world.
