Akagawa Yasu

Player: DiePotato

Position: Nurse

Demeanor: Quiet, perpetually irritated, prideful. Exudes a general aura of she doesn’t like being bothered.

Nature: To say her exterior demeanor is a cover to protect herself would be a lie only to a certain extent. Yasu largely prefers to be alone because of a strange cocktail of newfound pride, spite, and vengeance that makes her feel like she should be able to strike it out on her own. All her life she was raised and taught that she would forever have to fall back on her family’s guidance and influence in order to live and progress in life as they wanted and to finally be free of them is liberating to a degree she’s never felt before. The downfall of her family hurt, of course, and despite the feelings of inadequacy they instilled in her, Yasu really felt as if they cared about her. However, that doesn’t stop her from pushing forwards to try and make something for herself so that she can not only take revenge on those who destroyed her previous life, but so she can show her now departed family that she didn’t need their help to do it.

Description: Lanky and gangly despite being 5’5 which while about average for most European and American women is giant for a Japanese woman. Other features are also very indicative of her heritage: straight black hair that falls to the small of her back, dark eyes, slightly tanned complexion, etc. Yasu also has a variety of small-moderately sized burn scars on her upper body the most obvious ones being on her arms. She most often goes between her nurse uniform (which are composed of stereotypical green scrubs and tennis shoes) and her common wear which is usually composed of fashion for the ‘80s (meaning denim, leather jackets, and cool as shit sunglasses).

  • The Kiss of an Asp,: 3. What Yasu lacks in overall strength she tried to make up for during training with more applied measures of force to critical areas and with quick strikes. (Yasu's capable of making a special attack with Light melee weapons)
    • Disabling Attack: Whenever Yasu lands a hit with a Light melee weapon she can choose to make a special attack that partially disables one of the target’s appendages. When Yasu lands a hit instead of rolling damage she first rolls Medicine versus the target’s original defense roll. If she succeeds, apply a debuff to respective Strength/Speed rolls made with that appendage (Debuff per appendage caps at 3) equal to half the roll rounded down. This attack also deals 1 damage. Actions that require multiple affected limbs stack debuffs. Inapplicable against creatures without a logical bone/nerve structure, and those without bone/nervous structures. Debuffs generally last until medical treatment is administered.
  • Thoughtful Equipment.: 2. Yasu learned to pick up tools relatively early on in her life in order to help around the household even though it didn't really fit with conventional roles. This was further built up on (Yasu has access to some unique but basic equipment items with opportunity to upgrade them into full equipment later.)
    • Yasukaginawa: A grappling hook that was made by Yasu and modernized from outdated schematics. The grappling hook itself is smaller than most conventional designs with spring-loaded hooks that allow it to be more easily stored and concealed. On the outside it looks like a rectangular block of metal with slats missing along each long edge which the hooks sit inside until a latch is released near the rope ring at the bottom. As a result of its’ design and size it can only easily support one moderately sized person at a time.
    • Smoke Canisters: A set of M18 Smoke Grenade canisters that Yasu has filled with her own custom blend of ingredients. Has all of the use and versatility that you would expect out of smoke grenades such as providing concealment and being used for signalling.
  • A Quick But Precise Treatment,: 1. (Yasu may use Speed instead of Strength for the purposes of melee rolls with a Light melee weapon)
  • : 1. (+1 )
  • Supporting Marksmen: 1. (+1 to hit with non-automatic rifles when targeting an enemy who is also being engaged by allies)

Personal History:

The big points of what your character's life has been like from birth to the time the game starts.

Akagawa Yasu was born October 21st, 1957 into the Akagawa family in Osaka, Japan. The Akagawa family was a relatively minor crime family that operated a portion of the Osakan restaurant protection racket and performed a few other tasks for the Sumiyoshi-kai yakuza group. Yasu herself was the fourth and youngest child of the family and the second daughter which resulted in some strained relationships and expectations from her family from an early age. Not in the sense that she was straining to break free of her family’s control in her life in order to pursue something elsewhere, but in the sense that her family declined any additional help she wanted to put into the crime side of things. They mostly allowed her to assist any endeavors from a support standpoint: organizing finances, giving minor to moderate medical care to those who were wounded and couldn’t go the hospital, performing minor repairs on equipment and clothing, etc. However, Yasu was in the end expected to try and pursue a life that was not as attached to the family’s main activities as she would have preferred which fostered both a sense of general inadequacy and a sense of rebellion. This was further worsened by her second eldest brother’s lack of apparent desire to assist in the family business but was forced to do so anyways. The rest of Yasu’s history up to graduating high school was spotted with acts of rebellion that further strained her relationship with her family.

The Akagawa family came to the Foundation’s attention in 1980 when the Foundation discovered several yakuza clans were starting to make business arrangements with proxies to Marshall, Carter, and Dark. Along with that the Foundation was starting to hear reports out of Japan that an AWCY? cell had taken root in Tokyo via Japan’s burgeoning underground music scene. Foundation investigation teams were sent in Late 1980 in order to keep to try and pursue any anomalous artifacts being traded between the yakuza and MC&D and to pursue the anart musical group that was causing issues in Tokyo for both the general populace and the crime families. Yasu’s involvement became clear after a handful of clashes between the AWCY? cell and various yakuza clans which forced the cell to evacuate to Osaka in March of 1981. Yasu after high school had left for Tokyo University in order to pursue a nursing degree and sometime in 1981 encountered the anart musical group and became romantically involved with one of its’ members. After being forced to flee from Tokyo due to both yakuza and Foundation forces they fled to Osaka in order to try and take advantage of Yasu’s family (despite Yasu’s protests) who were serving as a middleman for yakuza/MC&D dealings meaning they were in possession of a number of anomalous artifacts. The conflict between the anart cell and the yakuza ended the same month after the anartists invaded the Akagawa’s family restaurant leaving multiple dead and wounded on both sides, the restaurant building being set aflame, and several members of the anart cell escaping. Foundation forces moved in soon after capturing and treating survivors and capturing anomalous artifacts inside the building before it burned to the ground. Yasu was among those captured and as one of the few who hadn’t been heavily infected by the AWCY? meme was able to provide a large amount of insight into what transpired.

Yasu was recruited by the Foundation after appropriate application of amnestics and mental treatments in order to scrub the memetic infection along with further training and joined Delta-4 as a nurse/field medic.
